If we were to look at all the nations of the world currently, I wonder which ones would be at the top with regards to humanitarian giving, willing to share their wealth with others? Which ones would be at the bottom, hording their wealth and unwilling to help others in need ? Untold millions of tons of food etc, given to aid the poor all over the world has rotted at docks, been stolen, or been lost to warfare. Is that the fault of the givers? Millions starved in the former Soviet Union and China in the past. Was it because the West was so prideful that they refused to help? Or was it the pride of the ruling classes that were unwilling to change their philosophies and saw the ' masses ' as an impediment to their power? Even today the so called Green movement is so attached to their "truths" that they are unwilling to allow the industrialization of Africa which would do more to raise the poor out of misery that any program of aid ever will. Of course , this is not really connected to a personal level of pride. When I ignore the homeless , or the widows ,or the addicted around me because " they brought it on themselves " I am filled with pride . 2

I think if you visit some wards in Samoa, Guatemala or even Stockton, CA you will find a humble people. I'll find humble people in every unit in the Church to some level or another. But I will add, I could find humble people in all groups and perhaps throughout the world's history. There were no doubt humble Nephites and Lamanites at the very time they were being condemned as a proud people.

This is a decent attempt at explaining why we can't seem to do much about that which is the inevitable. We're stuck in pride cycles just like they were in the BoM, I'm guessing, if the book si to carry any weight in speaking with us, anyway. As it turns out, we're just like they are--weak individuals doing our best, hitting different levels of pride and humility at different times in our lives. Even if our overall level of pride may be at such a high rate it'd put any particular group of condemned Nephites or Lamanites look like humble followers of God. 1

The Pride Cycle should include the whole USA not just the Church. We have a nation of proud people they seem to not call on God until there is a natural disaster. I mean if you go by the stats that are always being posted on here about how religion is taking a beating, nobody goes to church anymore, we are becoming a godless nation etc..... 1

I'm not trying to say only the Church. The Country and beyond may be those included in a society of high pride.

Yeah...well...maybe we could accuse ourselves of under-simplifying it if we didn't describe a pride cycle at all and taught the lessons one at a time. But, that's tough, because we like to simplify, generalize, group like sounding things together. Man, no matter what we do we do it wrong in some way. What are we humans or something?
