Although one of the big motivators for me are because I know responsibilities fall upon me, and there are times when I feel like if someone else is going to do it, I don't have to sweat it as hard if it is too hard to do something, whereas if I know the responsibility lies more solely upon me, I'll end up bending over back wards to try and get it done. So for me, at least, there is some truth to it. Please don't say it light hearted or otherwise. As calm said, this is a human condition, not a male or female one. So the idea that men would be too lazy and women take over is hurtful to both sexes. Edited July 11, 2016 by Rain 1
strappinglad Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Perhaps there is a mood to hold blessings at home because the leadership has put strong restrictions on having temple recommend holding brethren only participate when done in the chapel. It used to be that there was a requirement to be a MP holder and even then a father could hold the child and the others would break the circle for him if necessary. Times have changed. Here's a heretical thought. A mother holds her child and blesses it as a mother without any reference to the priesthood at all. Possible? Kosher ?

Just look at how much the relief society already does, and how little the elders even do their home teaching already. If the power was delegated to the women to run everything I think you women would end up with way too much on your plate. It already seems like you have a lot to do anyway. I say be careful what you wish for. If it came true it might not be as rosy as you think. How many times does a husband not want to get up in the middle of the night to help with a small baby, and leaves it up to the wife. Now imagine getting calls to perform a priesthood blessing in the middle of the night, on top of that, if the responsibility was pawned off to you women as well. Just my two cents worth anyway. Oooooh...Nooooo..women could delegate...delegate..those men would be busy!! Baking pies...quilting..not to mention ironing all those white shirts for the boys!! We want some nice dinners/banquets and doughnuts..homemade after all our meetings. 1

This is not true: Handbook 2, 20.1.2 Only a Melchizedek Priesthood holder who is worthy to hold a temple recommend may act as voice in confirming a person a member of the Church, conferring the Melchizedek Priesthood, ordaining a person to an office in that priesthood, or setting apart a person to serve in a Church calling. As guided by the Spirit and the instructions in the next paragraph, bishops and stake presidents have discretion to allow priesthood holders who are not fully temple worthy to perform or participate in some ordinances and blessings. However, presiding officers should not allow such participation if a priesthood holder has unresolved serious sins. A bishop may allow a father who holds the Melchizedek Priesthood to name and bless his children even if the father is not fully temple worthy. Likewise, a bishop may allow a father who is a priest or Melchizedek Priesthood holder to baptize his children or to ordain his sons to offices in the Aaronic Priesthood. A Melchizedek Priesthood holder in similar circumstances may be allowed to stand in the circle for the confirmation of his children, for the conferral of the Melchizedek Priesthood on his sons, or for the setting apart of his wife or children. However, he may not act as voice. 1
