Rain Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 When I started looking at my own questions to see if they were the ones I should be asking it really opened up possibilities I hadn't considered before. It helped me to do my homework before taking it to the Lord - sometimes I knew the question wouldn't get what I was looking for and so I would spend time trying to figure it out. Some people argue that and say, "God knows your heart and what you are asking" but I found I didn't always know. As I pondered how to word it I got a much better understanding of myself and what I was looking for. Then when the answer came I was ready for it. 2

Did you have to go to the Temple to get your answer or did it come to you in your home?

In General Conference some of the apostles talk about letters they received, but how do the people find where to mail the letters to or their email addresses? Can only the special Mormons contact these guys with their issues or questions? It seems the best I can do about an issue is talk to my Stake Presidency or former Mission President. Or have to even settle for just talking to a Bishopric member. Does anyone have any contacts for any GAs or Apostles? Or do they keep them private that only the VIP Mormons can ask them questions. (Humourous lighthearted response alert). Try showing up at General Conference in a tie-dyed Bob Marley tee-shirt and dreadlocks, greeting the President with a cheery "Hey, Mon! Whaddup?" Even Church Security will be so shocked you might have several seconds to blurt out your question before you're tackled and dragged away. 2
rpn Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) Don't we all agree that God doesn't need to filter His communication through a GA: He is perfectly capable of giving all answers to the direct person who has the stewardship, and since that is His order of things, why do we thing VIP types get any better answers? The fact is that if the answer comes from God within the OP's stewardship, it will be the same answer if the OP gets it or if the Prophet does, which is how we confirm what the Prophet says. If the answer is one that is based on intent to follow the Savior, and the personal experiences that informs decisions, then it is completely possible that two doctrinally sound, but differently knowledged or experienced members will have divergent answers. Seeking "an important person's" advice means we are not trusting that we can access the power of heaven ourselves, within our own stewardship. _________ I've written to suggest things, and I've written for thank you's. Just to be clear, this wasn't a one time thing. For awhile I was doing it with every question so that I could understand the process. When I understood then it just came more naturally. From time to time I get lazy and forget and then have to remind myself again. I rarely go to the Temple for answers. Most of my answers come at home. Sometimes I have gone to the Temple for answers and come home disappointed. Thank you for asking me about this because it helps me to look inside myself and realize that when I was going to the Temple for answers I was looking for the easy way. I should have realized that I need to prepare myself and questions when I go to the temple just as much, if not more, as I do outside of it. Edited April 9, 2016 by Rain 2
Rain Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) By the way, here is the book. I highly recommend it, but don't plan on just reading through it. Work through it or it doesn't do as much for you. There isn't a lot of reading as there are a lot more pictures and white space than text, but there are assignments along the way. So I got an interview from my bishop, who was more impressed that I got an response than concerned about anything I wrote in my letter. And in fact, I have since repented of writing the letter -- although I still believe I was largely correct with respect to the matter I brought up, which was in response to something he wrote in The Ensign that got my dander up. Upon maturer reflection, I realized that I shouldn't have bothered, or at least I should have worded the letter more respectfully! Mea culpa. Was it hard to repent when you felt you were largely correct? Did you feel good about it?

Ya I think for some reason I expect more answers in the Celestial room of a temple than in my own home like in a way of being owed answers for being there, which I shouldn't be doing. If I could receive the answer to this issue from the spirit then I wouldn't have to write a GA.
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 I need to work on figuring out how to get personal revelation from God on this issue.
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 You guys should know that it's serious otherwise I would just make a thread about it and ask people on this board like I do with everything.
Rain Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Like I mentioned, I would go to your stake president again and let him know it is still bothering you and ask if could he please help you. 1

VideoGameJunkie Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 I'm meeting with my Bishop tomorrow. Hopefully things can get in motion from there or maybe this time he'll satisfy my need for an answer. 3

Actually no, it wasn't hard to repent. What I was repenting of was not disagreeing with him over the subject in question -- it wasn't about the gospel, per se, but political matters -- it was about being somewhat disrespectful in my words and tone. I'm rather ashamed of how I framed my words in the letter. Edited April 10, 2016 by Stargazer 1

VideoGameJunkie Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) I just got done meeting with the Bishop. He said the most perfect things that satisfied my heart and my answers. I don't need to go up the chain of command because my Bishop solved my 3 year anxiety with 1 20 minute interview. The main theme was trust in Heavenly Father that he wants what's best for you and figure out which of the 2 gives you love as opposed to anxiety. Sorry I'm not being more specific but it was important to hear. And he also told me to look for love and try to find love over lust. Edited April 10, 2016 by VideoGameJunkie 3
