When I start to get anxiety I go on YouTube and listen to relaxing music like video game soundtracks or smooth jazz or calming piano music. Good music always helps my moods. Play music before reading. Keep it going while you are reading. 2

Rain Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Just remember you are looking for the Spirit, not emotions. Feeling the Spirit may be similar to feeling emotions, but they are not the same. The music can sooth your emotions though to allow you to feel the Spirit. 2
Traela Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 You might try reading the Psalms as well. A few of them are filled with vengeance and the smiting of one's enemies, but I find most to be comforting and uplifting. They're generally what I go to when one of the kids is in the hospital. 1

I read because I'm supposed to read. I've always hated reading because of my learning disorder but I've enjoyed scripture reading recently. I just feel bad because the main reason I read is because I feel as a Mormon I'm just supposed to. I read them because each time I find something new, it is as if God opens my mind and pours in perfect knowledge. I developed a love affair with them at an early age and has continued into my old age.
Calm Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I know I've mentioned this before, but Book of Mormon Central's KnowWhys can be very interesting and use visual and music that helps at keeping focused. Even if you are only reading bits of scripture with this service, you are being exposed to scripture and are training your brain to think about it, sometimes in new ways. It might not get you there right now, but it can help you move towards a more consistent and in depth scripture studying: An example because I love the picture: http://www.knowhy.org/node/47 2

One of my boys requested I send him the soundtrack to Halo while he was on his mission, so I'm not surprised you mention those. 1

Calm Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I love it. Have to edit out a few pieces, too unsettling, but over all, I love to fall asleep to it. Pulls me into it. Think I will go put on some right now.
