Science And Scripture

Is that from John Sr or John boy Walton?

I'm guessing John boy.

I think of scripture as what explains what happened and will happen, and why, while science mostly is about trying to figure out if what God says through scripture is true.

What is excellent? I don't see anything.

I guess the link just doesn't work for you?

For me it shows a presentation by John Walton, who is an Old Testament scholar.

Here is a PDF link to a much earlier essay,

Just reading the first page is enough to get the drift.

Keep in mind that in the video, he does not discount the idea that Adam and Eve are real individuals, he seems very open to the idea that they were.  Of course, he does , as typical of most Christians, have a negative view of the fall, but otherwise his perspectives are very much compatible with LDS views.

I also like how he attempts to prevent Christians who believe in evolution and those who don't from pitting against each other.

Finally had a little time to watch this, and apart from the Original Sin bits at the end propounding a negative view of the 'Fall' and wanting to be like the Gods, most of it really is quite good. I've been saying a lot of this stuff for years; this will be a handy little resource to direct people towards in the future. Thanks for pointing it out. :)

(As usual, I still wish everyone interested in the ancient cosmology would do themselves a favor and read Hamlet's Mill. The ancient worldview is not the anti-scientific superstitious silliness it is often made out to be.)

I agree that his view of the Fall is a little off, otherwise it was great.

Try these for a more LDS view of the Fall;  they are shorter in length:
