Popular Post stemelbow Posted July 13, 2015 Popular Post Posted July 13, 2015 I admit I cried when I first read this little story about how the kids stole their hearts. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865632457/Changing-landscape-Same-sex-couples-among-Utahs-newest-foster-parents.html I know one of the favored arguments against the morality of SS couples is they can't have kids so naturally they shouldn't be couples. I say, forget that. Kids are everywhere and need love, attention, support, encouragement... SS couples are a necessity for all of us. 5
JulieM Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 That's a very touching article. Thanks for posting it, stemelbow!
KevinG Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I don't doubt some same sex couples can be fantastic parents. The missing piece for me is there is no longitudinal data on how the lack of a female or male parent effects the development of a child. This is a huge experiment in social engineering and we don't really know how it will end. Here is a first person view from a girl raised by two moms and it expresses some regrets: http://thefederalist.com/2015/03/17/dear-gay-community-your-kids-are-hurting/ Of course her pain might be the same as any child of divorce, but its worth a read and some consideration. We won't really know the end result for another generation or two. 4
ALarson Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Great link stemelbow. This is good news: Bateman and Wright are among 15 same-sex couples who have completed training or are taking classes to become licensed foster care providers, according to theUtah Foster Care Foundation.Hamblin said the pool of same-sex spouses who are licensed foster parents is "small percentage but a growing percentage" of the whole. Tacenda Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Thanks for these articles. I think if I were an older child in foster care being shuffled from one home to the next, I'd be ecstatic to have a SSM couple adopt me. I'd be the center of attention and have all their devotion, I'm guessing.

There is no reason a SS couple can't be good, kind, loving parents. It still doesn't make it right.
