Was it an immoral society that outlawed mixed skin color marriages? Be very careful how you answer.

SEE https://www.lds.org/topics/race-and-the-priesthood?lang=eng

That reasoning could justify legalizing anything that someone sees as immoral.

It is a superficial argument without showing why the two cases are equivalent.

Many of those involved in racial civil rights deny connection with claims for sexual orientation civil rights.

In both cases more than the analogy or rejection of it is required for a decent argument IMO.

I am actually very fond of the BSA.  What I don't like is the fact that it got used as a political football.  Had they gone with the first compromise, then each Chartering Organization would have made up its own mind as to who they wanted to call as leaders.  In our case, the likelihood of a gay person who had actually come out of the closet and was actually involved in homosexual activity would have had somewhere between zero and zip chance of becoming a Scout leader in one of our units.  So the purpose of the policy is to tell other Churches and organizations who they could or could not call as a leader in their unit.  Given that a fair number of Christian Churches have embraced SSM, to the extent they have gay and lesbian ministers -- this was guaranteed to continue the controversy.  Personally, I had to scratch my head a little when I realized that one of the leader dismissals which regenerated the controversy was a Lesbian who was fired as a Den Mother, but whatever.  BSA is being politicized, they had a chance to get it out of the political limelight, but thanks to the Salt Lake Council its stuck right in the cross-hairs -- which is unfortunate, because it is a really great program and organization which is being drug through the political muck.  The very issue of whether a judge could belong to a discriminatory organization such as the BSA has come up out here....so what has happened is that the political/cultural tug of war has put the BSA in same category as the KKK which it does not deserve, but where it has landed because of the desire of a few religious organizations to impose their standards on all of the other organizations.

To be fair he is saying, quite clearly, if the Church taught it's members on Sunday that gay marriage is not a good thing, he'd have no problem at all. but his criticism is that the Church did far more than that. It dedicated money, man-power and resources to influence the outcome.

I think it's a fair criticism. I don't see it as requiring the Church to keep their mouth shut about it in public.

I think he should take his show on the road to all the majority black churches in California, who overwhelmingly supported Prop 8 and the LDS Church's co-support along with the RCC, and tell them to sit down and shut up in public.

Nobody should sit down and shut up. It just so happens that the LDS Church, whether others were involved is irrelevant, put in extensive effort to influence the outcome of the vote. But it doesn't matter, because these days, a mere 7 years later, run a popular vote and you'd get a win for the support of gay marriage in California. If so, why is that? Well obviously people changed their mind as they heard from people and were so influenced.

As it stands all the effort and money put into it back then was a huge old waste. We should have just donated more money and resources to those who have since died around the globe due to lack of food and clean water.

Only because lawmakers and judges have not yet decreed it so.

Wasn't too long ago that was the case with same-sex "marriage."

Very true. This is especially of concern with children. The courts have been disturbingly freewheeling when it comes to what children's rights are with regard to parental authority in cases of abortion and teenage pregnancy, for instance. And it's only getting worse.

WOW, godwins, racebaiting and general jerkiness in this thread.  Time for it to be closed.  The same players seem to be involved next time we have an issue like this again you all are going to spend some time off the board.
