poptart Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Wow, The Bishop was amazing. After I told him everything his first concern was my mental health then employment. Was probably a good thing I emphasized I wanted to work more than anything, but between the last rejection letter I received, the stress from my bad situation and now mental problems sinking in his overall concern was my health. No questions asked, he didn't even say I should take the missionary discussions, he just wanted me to be in once piece. Waiting for a call from the employment specialist now.Think the only thing that really made him a little dissapointed was when he asked if I had any religious background and I said that no one ever cared.
Calm Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Very good to hear. Sounds like he made the rest of us LDS look good.
poptart Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 Very good to hear. Sounds like he made the rest of us LDS look good. Yeah, looks like he's treating me with the kids gloves. I have a lot of work to do. He did agree that I would be in better hands with them then the gov't. I told him I was in outpatient care and on meds that just made me sick which I why I quit taking them. That made him cringe a bit too.
Calm Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I personally prefer the drugs that make me projectile vomit...it is so fun dashing for the bathroom hoping I can at least manage to spew somewhere there is walls and a floor that can be easily washed....
poptart Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 I personally prefer the drugs that make me projectile vomit...it is so fun dashing for the bathroom hoping I can at least manage to spew somewhere there is walls and a floor that can be easily washed.... Awww how cuuuuuuute~Man, psychiatric meds are awful, especially the SSRI's. So far every mass shooter the USA has had has been on those things. Funny how no ones talking about that.
Calm Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 (edited) I do not discount the great usefulness psychiatric drugs can have for people. I know of many who have only been able to function through their help or who would be dead without them. Unfortunately it is not an exact science and even with great care mistakes can be made and many doctors and patients don't take great care. I tend to have a love/hate relationship with drugs...I would not be able to sleep without the drug I take now due to a genetic disorder. Otoh, being misdiagnosed for 15 years and given the wrong type of drugs for them, I wonder if I had by some miracle found a doctor who had not assumed tiredness meant depression and worked to find something that actually helped me that we could afford***** what kind of life I would have....probably I would have my doctorate and would be teaching college kids at least...or we would have adopted or fostered kids...or I would be doing research for professors as a job...all these plans in life we've had to put aside due to deterioration that was sped up by medication, not delayed or controlled as intended. *****massages everyday wasn't in our budget for example, acupuncture which I recently discovered works great....for about 12 hours was also not something I could get done every night before bedtime but if I could have, I might be able to avoid drugs completely even now? Don't ask me why, don't have a clue but don't think it was a placebo because it affected even my tinnitus which I don't even remember most of the time, just know it was the first time my ears have been silent since I was a teen probably over forty years ago (it may have been caused originally by whiplash ).Anyway, I get the frustration of dealing with doctors who either depend on the quick fix or think that is what you want and I get very frustrated that our society is set up to discourage dealing effectively with preventing problems from getting worse through a more holistic supportive approach...but I have yet to see any society outside the family that is capable of addressing people's needs and even most families are lacking due to not being educated medically speaking or not have the resources. It then can too often become a vicious cycle where lack of the right care increases need which results in more improper care rather than going back and finding what works, etc.If I didn't have the gospel and the belief I have of a wonderful, eternal life, I'd be very pissed off about what has happened to me...and the rest of the world given that no one has had a perfect life. Everyone has been shafted by some circumstance in their life at sometime. Edited November 3, 2014 by calmoriah

Everyone has been shafted by some circumstance in their life at sometime.See, thats why meds scare me. Really, a lot of it was not so much me needing zoloft, but the doctors worried I might killmyself or just lose it and get into it with one of the people I was living with who really had it in for me. Had no money, no place to go and the people I thought were my friends all turned their back on me in my time of need, except for one but he had left town a long time ago for family reasons. All I needed was to be treated like a human being for all the problems I was having but no, they had to treat me like a liability who might get them sued. I have little respect for the American Psychiatric practice in that they just give this stuff out then when something doesn't work they just try something out regardless of the damage they've already done. Know a few people who I think are damaged beyond repair due to too many meds, and they're like 25. Every time I hear about someone giving their son (just what I notice) retalin or whatever they give kids nowadays just so they can warehouse him and not do their jobs as parents sickens me, and the medical profession in this country lets it slide. Its times like this i'm grown up, it's a real lousy time to be a child in the usa considering what they shove down their throats and force them to learn. So far giving the LDS church a try has worked out. The one thing the Bishop did not ask me was if I had a substance abuse problem. So long as the depression isn't too bad I run pretty much every day and with the exception of the occasional bottle of wine I buy (and almost all of it goes into the food as a marinade/cooking ingredient) I don't drink. Could easily do without that if I had to. Also I don't smoke so no physical problems to worry about. Guess I made his job that much easier. Also the employment counselor called a few hours ago, set up an appointment for Tuesday. Wow, I love how their therapy is all around work. That makes sense, why just give someone meds then let them do nothing? Making them useful is such a better idea, gives you a sense of self worth. Edited November 3, 2014 by poptart
Calm Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Yes, we do not believe that people can be truly happy unless they can find a way to contribute to the world, especially through being as independent as one can be. We need as humans to feel like more than just a placeholder, that someone needs us just as we need them. We also want to be treated as intelligent mature adults. We can do this best by getting involved as much as possible in our own care, becoming independent in wise ways and dependent for emotional support on those who are trustworthy. Not everyone finds that kind of situation, I have been very blessed. I hope you find what works for you and who you love working for (not your boss, but the ones who benefit from your work because you share the results of it with those you love). 1

Will ask if I can get into LDS family services. I don't feel like going back to in state mental healthcare and if they can help fix things, great. Will probably try to get into their 12 step program too, just because my father was such a bad alcoholic and almost drug me down the same path. Managed to drag myself off that one kicking and screaming but I know its still there. From what I've heard LDS family services is way better run than a lot of state places. They don't just shove meds down your throat or put you around a bunch of miserable people who no one really cares about. Glad our Church had be a help to you! Yeah, me to. The Bishop was really nice.
