I asked these questions in my email, but wondered what others' thoughts are: 1) Are there separate lines of authority for elder, high priest, etc.? Or, is one's line of authority simply one's current office? 2) Are Aaronic priesthood lines of authority "traceable?" Or, would, say, a deacon ordained by his father simply be his father's current line of authority? I'm especially wondering about a priest who ordains another AP holder. If it is how I think it is (see above), then it would trace through several MP holders to the priest (assuming, like most, he was ordained by an MP holder). I've asked several people this, and get different answers. To the best of my knowledge, there are no instructions on this: If an ordination circle has a mix of MP and AP holders (priests), should the ordination say: "By the authority of the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthood(s) . . ." (I favor this one) "By the authority of the priesthood, which we hold . . ." (this was a favorite way to deal with this by several stake presidency members I've asked) [some other way]?

I think it's what current ordination they have, like my bro ordained me an elder and he was ordained by a High priest who was ordained a High Priest by and yadda yadda yadda

It would be neat, though, if there was a purely AP line (i.e., I was ordained by my dad, who received the AP _____, who was ordained by his dad, who received the AP _____, . . .). People could have Porter Rockwell in their AP line . . . I don't think the Church's records can do that, though.
Buckeye Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 My understanding is you only ever have one line. That line goes through whoever ordained you to the highest office you hold. Thus, if your dad ordained you a deacon teacher priest and elder, but the stake president ordains you a high priest at the time you are set apart as a bishopric counselor, your line goes through the stake president, not your dad.

There have been recent pushes from the Church to contact them for lines of authority, etc. We'll see . . . (I sent my email last week, and haven't gotten a reply. Maybe this isn't something the Church offers).

Maybe this isn't something the Church offers).Only the last one, the two others are dated 2013 and include how to contact them to get the lines (though as i mentioned the pdf file which doesn't have a date may not be current. I included the last link as a demonstration that technology which at one time required them to stop giving out lines (as demonstrated by that article) now has been able to compensate (as demonstrated by the current procedure) and it is probably much more efficient than it was previously.
