thesometimesaint Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Hello Stargazer...About 3 years ago or a little longer (I lose track of time, it goes so quickly) I was evacuated one night about 11:00+ PM... we had been listening to the news following an earthquake in Japan and the ensuing tsunami that was headed for our west coast. I had everything prepared, including items for Bobby-cat... I was dozing when I heard the sirens and loudspeakers as the fire trucks went through every neighborhood warning people to evacuate... so I threw Bob into his carrier and away I went to a designated safe zone... Slept in the car for several hours until the all-clear had been given. The waves that hit our shore were just a little bigger than some we get during our storms... so no real damage. The joke has always been that when the West Coast drops into the ocean, Utah will be oceanfront property... GG We're canted the wrong way. It is everything east of the San Andreas will fall into the Atlantic ocean. 1

GG In January 1700 the last Cascadia Subduction Zone quake occurred, and devastated the PNW coast. The resultant tsunami also did significant damage in Japan, where it was labelled as an orphan tsunami, i.e. one with no corresponding felt earthquake. When the "Big One" happens here, you will most definitely feel it, so no need to wait for a siren. I live sufficiently inland that I won't have to worry about a tsunami. My house is 120 years old, however, and I do anticipate that it will be basically destroyed afterwards, and uninhabitable. What fun!
