They have different audiences and purposes. See Newsroom: Commentaries, and Gospel Topics. I only differentiated because of ALarson's question, "Is this one of the new essays?" - that seemed to be a reference to the essays addressing specific difficult historical and doctrinal questions in the Study Library that have been of particular interest. The Newsroom Commentaries are far more about current events and relevant social commentary. They are both official communications, but have different purposes. Edited February 11, 2014 by David T 1
