Another New Essay - Why Religion Matters

Is this one of the new essays?  It looks different.  It's still excellent and thanks for posting it, mercyngrace.

Oops, edited to add that I just saw this description:

"This essay on individual faith is the first in a five-part series about the value of religion" Edited by ALarson

It's a newsroom essay. They post these from time to time. Different than the Gospel Topics Library.

Different because it isn't considered doctrine? Or because of the target audience? Or why do you think exactly?

They have different audiences and purposes. See Newsroom: Commentaries, and Gospel Topics.

I only differentiated because of ALarson's question, "Is this one of the new essays?" - that seemed to be a reference to the essays addressing specific difficult historical and doctrinal questions in the Study Library that have been of particular interest. The Newsroom Commentaries are far more about current events and relevant social commentary. They are both official communications, but have different purposes.

mfbukowski should love that fact that ol' Ludwig gets quoted:  :)

Ultimately, in those searching moments with the divine, it is the individual who filters the details, weighs the evidence, and makes decisions on matters of highest significance. This wrangling is the process of faith. Ludwig Wittgenstein wrote: “To believe in God means to see that the facts of the world are not the end of the matter.”

Thanks for explaining. David. I wasn't quite sure why you were making the distinction.

are they shifting to the argument " religion is on balance good. it meets human needs."  ?

I thought religion, especially mormonism, claimed to be good due to authority, god's plan, etc.

Are they shifting to Good over True?
