BCSpace
I would like to see a Bishop anonymously start a small business, say lawn mowing for example, and invite people off the street to work it. That would be a much better and more effective example imho. Link to comment
Calm
We had a member who had a painting business in a previous ward and would take on anyone who wanted a job...they would have to actually work though, so some didn't last. Mostly it was young men earning money towards their missions. I think starting a small business where safety could be assured for all would be a great idea, lawnmowing for businesses is a great idea...the business could use it as PR as in "our yardwork is done by such and such foundation". Ward members could get behind it (anonymously) by advertising, helping pay for the overhead to begin with, etc. Window washing of businesses and similar low tech work could be part of it. As a side note, my husband had a student who started putting himself through school with a lawnmowing business. Last I heard (we moved out of the country) he was worth a million, I believe, and growing...still had that business as well and would come out and mow our lawn for us for old times sake. toon
Is that what Christ have done? Im not inclined to believe it is. He did it in A Poor, Wayfaring Man of Grief. Link to comment
toon
I only give money to homeless people when their signs say it is for beer or drugs. How do you know they're not going to just spend that money on food, clothing or shelter. I just give them beer or drugs. Link to comment
