I would say that I struggle with church not that I don't believe it but because sometimes it is feeling a little to much the same week to week. So.....

Garden Girl Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Lol, well that's encouraging right there. :-P The Revolutionary War is a great period to study, I've been getting more into it lately than I had in a while. Found some genealogical ties that got my interest peaked again. My sis and I were talking about this period in American history just the other night... what we have noticed over time is how little our young people are being taught about the history of our country, particularly the founding with all the struggles that went into becoming soverign... what prompted it was a part of Jay Leno's "Jaywalking" and Jessie Watter's "Watter's World" where they both have questioned young people in late teens to early 20's... and how little they knew of our history. Jay would ask questions like ... Finish the sentence... "Give me liberty or give me ...." Or, "One if by land, two if by ...." and they didn't know!! the girls would stand there giggling, giving silly answers... the boys looking sheepish... Watters would show pictures of recent political candidates/individuals and rarely could any of those questioned identify them... but when questioned about some popular rock group etc they were quick to answer... No wonder there is a developing apathy toward patriotism and love of country... they aren't generally being seriously taught our history of the struggle in coming forth as a nation. Why would we expect them to have the same sense of love of country as my generation... (I realize I'm generalizing here, but we do notice this...) I was complaining about this to my hairdresser during the recent election process... and I was exclaiming about none of the young people knowing who said "Give me liberty or give me death!!" And she said... Who did say that? Aaaarrrgh!! My sis's grandchildren's textbooks just don't have it... GG

It was discovering that my eighth-great grandfather was in the Virginia House of Burgesses with Patrick Henry and George Washington - and may have originally written the speech - that rekindled my interest in Revolutionary History. I'm a descendent of Ethan Allen of the Green Mountain Boys fame. The acorn didn't fall far from that tree. I'm still a bit of a rabble-rouser. 1
altersteve Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 There are the expected ones, like get married, have a few kids, etc., but for me there's also write a book, direct a movie, build a successful business, explore the world, do whatever I can to help those who need help wherever I go, and just try to live my life in a way that leaves a tiny dent in the universe.
