Young was indeed "maddeningly unpredictable." He swore like a sailor and prayed like a saint. He alternately made peace with Indian tribes and massacred them. He couldn't decide whether dancing was sinful; he permitted it one week and forbade it the next. ............

RBoylan Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I read the book a few weeks ago. It is one of the best biographies of Brigham Young around, and it rather honest and fair in his treatment of many of the more controversial issues (e.g. MMM). It is perhaps not the first book I would give a member of the Church who wanted to learn more about BY (my first pick would be "BY: American Moses" by Arrington), but it is perhaps the "Rough Stone Rolling" equivalent for BY.

Bill “Papa” Lee Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Too many good books, too little money.Other than Bushman's "Rough Stone Rooling" which had so much more info...what more can be said of other Prophet's...they were around much longer, other than Harold B. Lee, we had much more witnesses and better media. For instance Spencer W Kimball was written by a perfect source...his son Edward Kimball is memory serves. Maybe it was both sons.
