I tried to raise my children with a knowledge of the gospel and what is right or wrong. My teachings on the WofW were that it is a covenant for LDS today, but those that are not LDS that do drink tea or coffee are not doing anything wrong. I tied it into being a covenant people and to refrain from judging others. I have many relatives in the south that are not LDS that do drink iced tea. I seem to recall our daughter drinking iced tea when quite young at a family gathering. When we saw what had occurred we did not take the tea away; my aunt saw she wanted something to drink and gave here iced tea. It passed without incident and I strongly suspect that our four-year old daughter (at the time) has no recollection of having had iced tea. Our daughter was four, under no spiritual obligation for observing the WofW and did nothing wrong.A spiritual covenant is a personal promise between God and the individual. When there is no covenant there is no sin for ignoring the covenant. Do you think there should be? 1

I follow the WoW based on its current socially acceptable interpretation. I do however feel that it may have been stretched further than its original intent due to social pressures.

I wonder if drinking things that are too hot are injurious to us?I've also heard a lot of Muslims say that this relative or that one has or has had esophageal cancer. So, I wonder if in some cases, the esphageal sphincter leaks, allowing acid into the throat, and eventually causing cancer. This is not a subject that one would bring up with Muslims.So, I think that a lot of the Biblical prohibitions and the prohibitions that are in the Word of Wisdom have their basis in wise council.The leakage of stomach acid back into the esophagus is called GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease). Over time, the stomach acid can lead to damage to esophageal tissue and cancer. Smoking and drinking caffeinated beverages are among the risk factors contributing to acid reflux.

As some of you know, Muslims pray 5 times a day and each "prayer cycle" included going down on your hands and knees and putting your forhead on the floor, or a little stone, depending.I've also heard a lot of Muslims say that this relative or that one has or has had esophageal cancer. This is not a subject that one would bring up with Muslims.So, I think that a lot of the Biblical prohibitions and the prohibitions that are in the Word of Wisdom have their basis in wise council.This was just confirmed for me bt a Muslim friend with this very cancer who was diagnosed on sight by a doctor friend knowing of the high risk. There have been studies that have been done showing linkage with very hot drinks of coffee, tea, mate. I don't know of any studies about prayer style contributing, the studies compared Muslims who drank their tea at different temps but I don't know if they studied religious activity.
