And a characteristic of after-death accounts is that time is not a factor. "NDErs often comment on timelessness in God's presence. rameumptom Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Alma 36 notes Alma's 3 days in Spirit Prison (during his Near Death Experience). He was in hell until he repented. At that point, he was released, and saw God the Father on his throne. The wording makes it sound as if it were from a distance (like Jacob's ladder), and so he was in the presence of God, but not necessarily in the near presence of God, nor in the permanent presence of God.
BCSpace Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I think "home to that God who gave them life" merely refers to the final destiniation (God's Judgement) as he immediately launches into the heaven and hell that is the state of souls before the final judgement (vs 14).

Freedom Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 An analogy would be if you returned to North America after living in Spain for 20 years, you would say it is good to be home as soon as you land at an airport on your native soil, even if this first stop is 1000 km from your actual house. Also, there are clearly examples of people in this mortal realm who have seen God, so although we have to be of a certain condition to literally live as he does in his presence, this does not mean that we cannot see him as we are. We will not be able to enjoy his same glory but yet we can be with him in person.
