Banning Santa Claus At Ward Christmas Parties?

Most years, a member of our bishopric will don a cheap and unconvincing Santa costume and hand out lollies at the ward Christmas party. I'm OK with it...so long as he comes nowhere near me.

When my little 5 year old grandson went to the ward Christmas breakfast I asked him if he saw Santa. He said yes but he wasn't the real one.

The evil me would be tempted to out conservative the Bishop and suggest that holding any kind of Ward party during the winter solstice is inappropriate, weeing as it is a pagan festival and all. When the Bishop retorts that this is silly you could respond "so is banning Santa Claus".

Then again I'm not sure I'm that much of a rabble rouser.

I have a friend with a lot of young children. On Christmas day they have the three wiseman who belong to the nativity scene across the room from the manger, and every day the wiseman are moved a little closer to the nativity scene, until Epiphany, when they make it to see the baby Jesus.

Those are the kinds of things going on in these parts.

Then again, the idea that the wise men saw the baby Jesus laying in a manger might be just as much a fiction as Santa:

And when [the wise men] were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

I have to say this thread has been much more interesting with the typos. (otherwise it's a repeat of what we talk about each year at this time, not a bad thing but not fascinating.....this year I've started looking intently for the next variation on the usual theme )
