Is Md&D A Faith-Promoting Message Board?

Interesting discussion.

This board is not intended to promote Mormonism or tear down Mormonism. It is designed to discuss Mormonism. The moderation team works very hard to create an atmosphere where that can be done without losing either side of the discussion.

As many or more pro-LDS posters have been suspended or banned as anti-LDS posters. It is the quality of the discussion not the content that will get people banned (other than a few topics considered sacred to the LDS and therefore off limits to the board)

If you want more criticism there are plenty of boards that will accomodate your views.

If you want faith promotion go to LDS.org or other sympathetic LDS sites.

If you have suggestions to clarify or improve the board rules please share them with the moderators.

I think that this perception- like beauty- is wholly in the eye of the beholder. By way of contrast, I don't see any evidence of "an increasing lack of tolerance" for non-LDS posters.

  • Mudcat is still sharing his particular views on the Gospel.
  • Valentinus continues to share the peculiarities of her personal theology.
  • Rob Bowman is still here, bearing false witness against the Church on a regular basis.
  • Cinepro continues to elevate sarcasm and cynicism to levels worthy of an NEA grant.
  • Steve Dallas and others have not been censured for bearing their anti-testimonies (in this very thread and despite explicit rules to the contrary).
  • Craig Paxton is continuing his personal crusade against religious belief
  • You're still here tossing out random complaints and personal asides....

Yes, there've been a number of closings of particularly smarmy, egregious, and overtly combatative threads from certain postes- but that's par for the course.

So long as the threads and posters remain civil- that "gentlemanly discourse" you mentioned above- they seem to have quite a bit of latitude about what can be discussed and in what fashion.

Seems to me the board is ticking along pretty much as it always has.

Zing!

Replying to the OP.

MAD&D did wonders for my faith and testimony. Before I found this board I knew there were critics and critisisms of the LDS faith. I knew answers to those questions were likely out there but I didn't know where to look for rebuttals to criticism without the angst that appers on most LDS related message boards.

Accurately said.... This board is well above all others in maturity, respect, good scholarship, etc.

Obviously we have small moments, but even then it doesn't get to the low class invective that exists elsewhere.

Nobody over there wants to argue for some reason!

Unfortunately, the board has a hard time distancing itself from the former FAIR board among the older critics who remember those times. That being said, it may be difficult to discuss mormonism for the lds without promoting it since the critics wish to discount it.
