I'm not faniliar with him, his NDE, or his writtings.Does he believe he experienced an external, objective reality?Did he have a veridical out of body experience (of the kind Dr. Parnia's study is trying to document)?If you've never heard of Dr. Ritchie, I suspect you haven't read much on NDE's. Sounds like you need to do some homework! Why don't you read his book for yourself to find the answer to your questions--IMO, his is one of the best examples of an NDE. Deborah Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I wish I could see my Mom like that, know that the ICU wasn't the end of her, and know that she's o.k. now (but I suspect I'm not good enough to receive that kind of blessing.)I think sometimes we aren't quiet enough to let such things happen. Or we are too preoccupied with other things or trying too hard rather than just leaving it in the hands of the Lord. We don't need to see our loved ones who have passed to get that feeling of peace that they live on and are happy. I lost my mom this last year and her birthday is coming up next month and I found myself thinking about what to get her. I have to remind myself she's not here, and maybe that's an indication she still lives on. I have full confidence she's finally with her mom and dad and brother and grandson and others who went before her. Before she died she talked about them all the time and was wanting to go see them. She felt close to them toward the end and when she lay in her coffin she was so peaceful and beautiful and I knew she was finally back home.

mfbukowski Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) .I'm talking about things that clearly suggest there's more to this universe than can be explained by scientific theories that exclude God, angels, spirits, etc., and I don't really care whether you call it supernatural or preternatural.Oh that- sure.I knew that someone had been in a car crash at the moment it happened hundreds of miles away.I have been in the middle of a 50 mile bike ride and been prompted to call an older lady in the ward- couldn't get through, but then called her visiting teacher- who said - "you know- about 10 minutes ago- I got a prompting to go over there- and she had just fallen- and the paramedics are on their way".I had a similar prompting to call someone else- and he was feeling chest pains, and I called the paramedics for him.My nephew, as a child, was at a friends house- and suddenly just had a feeling he should get up and run home, and did, and found the house on fire- that one was written up in Ensign probably 20 years ago.Happens all the time!Can you prove it all scientifically how this works? God will show it to you when he wills it... it will be the right moment =).Keep going in faith... and I am sure it will happen if he wills it (which is between you and him).I have had revelation but never seen anything or had any visitations or anything of the kind. I have had some "spiritual dreams" but I don't know if they were just flights of fancy or actual foretelling of anything that will happen or because of some screw up won't happen. One dream I had that wasn't in that category was of me with Elder Russell M. Nelson in his office eating and talking about M&M's! interesting but not spiritual...

I don’t know of the AWARE study that you are referring to. I would just say this ... There is no doubt in my mind that there are positive and negative spirits out there. Also, when we are at our lowest in life, and are worthy enough to be a participant in God's plan we can receive assistance to accomplish our goal. In other words, when we are in situations where we know we have a heavenly duty to fulfill, and have reached difficulties or limitations in accomplishing it we are given gifts, miracles, blessings, that shore up our physical and mental earthly capabilities to accomplish our duty. Sometimes that does indeed lead to what some might call the supernatural. What would it be like to actually feel the Celestial love God has for you while being in a telestial body? What would it be like to actually see a degree of glory and be given a tour of it by a personal guide? What would it be like to see Heavenly Priesthood holders, standing over your giving you a blessing to heal you? What would it be like to have an earthly general authority give you a blessing, and through it transfer understanding of who you are, how you love God, and why you acted the way you did? How is it the words come to my mind when I need them most to explain a profound concept? How is it when a person sees a brand new prophet talk during conference, they hear the words of Christ, speaking boldly, testifying of his leadership? I would call that grace. Everyone has access to it when they do the Lords will. And, when you think about it, its really not that 'super' to a being or beings that live in a non-telestial state. Some might call it perfectly natural though - at least for them!
