I withdrew my membership shortly after having been baptized. It was about 3 months later. I regret having done that now to a certain extent. Well, I decided to invite the missionaries over again so I requested online that they come over. I hope and pray that the conversation will go well. I have a lot of learning to do and a long process to make before I consider joining again. 2

There is nothing wrong with having a positive discussion about something you agree upon... I would really suggest it actually... finding good things in life is few and far between in this world, oftimes. But yah =P.
Garden Girl Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) And may I suggest, PaladinGirl, that rather than a spirit of "debate" in your meetings, simply ask for scriptural and other references to doctrinal points. Listen to what is presented, read and study as much as you can from accurate information (not the anti websites for instance), but from formal LDS websites. That way you have accurate information to evaluate and pray about... and prayer is essential.If you go into your meeting ready to debate the "issues," then your mind is closed to begin with... There's nothing wrong with questioning and asking for explanations, including sources, but I would encourage you to do so with an attitude of learning vs one of trying to debate.Good luck.GG Edited May 5, 2011 by Garden Girl

bluebell Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Debates are difficult in situations where the spiritual is being discussed. They are usually contentious by nature because they imply that one side must 'win' and the other 'lose. There is no mutual sharing-no mutual learning and understanding through the spirit in a debate, and without the presence of the Spirit, nothing can be gained or learned at all.Of course this doesn't mean that you have to just accept whatever they tell you. It's just somethings to think about.
