Board Status

Minions of Mddb,

With great regret we received news that we need to move our servers out of the current data center our server is in. We were given some lead time but are not sure exactly the time frame. We are currently working on a solution since we need to physically move the box to another data center that is both cost effective and fits our needs. I will make a backup of the database as it is and put it on my computer just in case the lights go out. We have control over the domain and the board software so if we had to rebuild we can. In the meantime we are not looking for monetary donations but perhaps you may know of a data center in Utah that will work with us. We have enough traffic of needing more bandwidth than a vhost can provide but not enough to require a whole line dedicated to just one server so unless we can share a line it is not cost effective for us. Please send me a pm if you may know of a place or if you can donate the bandwidth altogether which would be nice also. We have some calls out to our resources but it doesn't hurt to have a backup plan with another back up plan and we wanted to let the community know whats going on.

Thank you,

Nemesis

So you feel you'd exceed Bluehost's abilities? (They are in Provo).

Having a simple host wont do it unless they offer a minimum of a vps server with dedicated ip or dedicated servers. What we have been using is a colaceted server.

They're not in Utah, but I've used a Liquidweb VPS for several years and they are very, very good.

I had continual bad luck with several previous companies (SLHost, Westhost, Jumpline), and I had almost given up hope of finding a solid hosting company.

Just a thumbs up to this. I've got several sites hosted by Liquid Web including a dedicated set up and a VPS set up for another site. I do highly recommend them as well.

As you may have read from my bragging, my Son Joshua represented Weber State in a nationwide computer forum and took first and second place in his specialties. His company has a large office in Ogden and I explained what you needed so he said he can probably help. I will PM his contact information.

What kind of traffic are you guys getting.

For the cost you might have to pay anyways, why not just throw it on an AWS image? It would be about $100/month and you could have full control of the OS and everything. Cloud computing has been a specialty of mine for some time, and I can guarantee you'll get what you want with full control on an AWS Cloud server better than going through a web host. And with an Elastic IP, you're green.

And if you need help setting it up, I am more than happy to help.

Looked into a cloud and its a little more than what we need. We already own a physical box so in reality for the same cost we could just move it to a new data center.

Our biggest site hosts a VB portal inclusive of video. During seasonal peak periods (it is a seasonal venue) we draw about 50,000 uniques per day.

Some really good solutions have come forward. Certain doom seems less of a probability. Will keep you all updated.

Was there any English written in any of the posts in this thread? I sure didn't see anything recognizably English.

If we start giving 10% of our income to the board, does that mean that the avenging ban-hammer will pass us over on judgement day?
