SeattleGhostWriter Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 If anyone is in the Salt Lake City area, apparently, Westboro Baptist Church is planning to "picket" Salt Lake Temple on January 23 around 11 am to 12:00 pm. If you are not familiar with who these people are, they are the ones that go around and protest and picket funerals. They are very derogatory in their approach. They believe that America is Doomed and that Obama is the Anti-Christ. Their language and preaching style makes the counter-cult ministries look like family magazine periodicals. While they do have the right to picket and protest - one word of advice (from what I have read and heard) this group should not be approached and engaged in any form whatsoever. Why? Because they use every opportune moment of any form of altercation to vehemently use vernacular you would not hear anywhere else. They use altercations (regardless of how meaningful it is) as a way to declare that they have a right to retaliate and react in unethical ways and means.

MorningStar Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 The good news is, while they're picketing at Temple Square, they won't be able to torment poor grieving families at funerals elsewhere.
Libs Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Yes, this group is just plain sad. What is most sad about it is that they sincerely believe they are doing God's will. I can't think of any single group or person who likely has it more wrong (except for perhaps the suicide bombers who do actual physical violence).

thesometimesaint Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 It is usually COLD in SLC in January. Offer them a cup of hot chocolate.
USU78 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I'm sure Sim Gill is firing up his office to charge Mormon bystanders with various felonies for being the schlemiels the soup falls on.

Did they state why?
SeattleGhostWriter Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Sadly I am familiar with them. Did they state why?I would be banned if I were to post exactly the reason why they are protesting. They are also protesting a Methodist church, a High School, and another place in Salt Lake.

There won
Vance Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Well the Moderators don't scare me none. (He says as he cringes while waiting to be trounced by them.)They are protesting because, WBC will picket the LDS whorehouse known as Salt Lake Temple to remind these reprobate Mormons that they need to put away their silly, idolatrous "religion" and simply REPENT and OBEY the clear standard of Jesus Christ.Mormons worship the likes of Brigham Young and Joseph Smith as if these heathens were gods! Early on they promoted adulterous, polygamous "marriages." They waste their time on goofy rituals and "holy" garments in direct violation of the scriptures. The LDS church is awash in money because the worship mammon and not the True and living God. WBC will tell them to put away all of this nonsense and read the words in the scriptures, to wit:1 Corinthians 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from Idolatry.Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon....28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.From,http://www.godhatesfags.com/schedule.htmlPS.Mods,Please let me live.

Phelps wrote about some interesting things the father and mother required of their children to do. One of those things were to have the kids go and sell candy in strip joints and bars so that Rev. Phelps could have some income because he stopped working. Here is some interesting timeline facts on the character and means by which WBC and Fred Phelps Operateshttp://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2001/spring/a-city-held-hostage/fred-phelps-timelThey do these so that people can oppose them and then sue the heck out of them.
Bill Hamblin Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Bringing the good news of Jesus to the Mormons! My linkMy link
Libs Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Wow, I would think that if you need to grade people in how wrong they are, there would be many other examples in between these protesters and suicide bombers...Well, yes, you're right that there are many people who do things much worse, like child molestors, murderers, etc. I was thinking more in terms of religious belief. When "hate" is your primary religious belief, I can't think of anything more off track or out of touch with God's purpose, than that....is what I meant.

ELF1024 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Wow, I would think that if you need to grade people in how wrong they are, there would be many other examples in between these protesters and suicide bombers...Not really, these people are vultures. The sucide bombers kills you, these vultures just prey on you during your grief after the loss of a loved one... perhaps after a sucide bomber. As far as I'm concerned, there is a special spot in Outer Darkness reserved for these folks...
Bill Hamblin Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Also see here,http://www.mormondialogue.org/topic/52931-wbc-to-protest-temple-square/Whoops. Sorry for the double topic. You can shut this one down if you'd like.
ERayR Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 These hate mongers seem to have an abundance of free time and money for travel. It is so sad that they can't find it in themselves to help some needy cause with it instead of trying to spread hate.
Jaybear Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to remember to pack a lunch that day, and enjoy the show.
SeattleGhostWriter Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to remember to pack a lunch that day, and enjoy the show. Why do I have this image of you standing in with the protesters and wearing a shirt that says "I'm with Stupid" and it points to any Phelp's family membes???
LifeOnaPlate Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Probably would be best to simply ignore them completely. They want attention. If attention is denied them they don't get what they're after.
seriously honestly Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 It is usually COLD in SLC in January. Offer them a cup of hot chocolate.I can see them protesting the acceptance of hot choclate from a Mormon, though...and from a Catholic, Methodist, homosexual, military personal, or anyone that looks at them cross-eyed for that matter.
nicolasconnault Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Aren't they already getting too much attention through this thread?
TAO Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 It is usually COLD in SLC in January. Offer them a cup of hot chocolate. You know... I say we bring them hot chocolate and donuts in the morning, PB&Js & Fruit Punch for Lunch, Spaghetti and Soda for dinner. And we bring in a gospel band with spiritual music so that their yelling isn't heard very well. Furthermore, let's make it a multi-faith operation to top it off.I say we serve them so much that it would be ridiculous to protest.Charity kills, they say ;-).It's too bad I live in California... =/.
