It is usually COLD in SLC in January. Offer them a cup of hot chocolate.

With a sedative mixed in. heh heh

They believe that America is Doomed and that Obama is the Anti-Christ.

Not to be political, but just to share an observation

You know... I say we bring them hot chocolate and donuts in the morning, PB&Js & Fruit Punch for Lunch, Spaghetti and Soda for dinner. And we bring in a gospel band with spiritual music so that their yelling isn't heard very well. Furthermore, let's make it a multi-faith operation to top it off.

I say we serve them so much that it would be ridiculous to protest.

Charity kills, they say ;-).

It's too bad I live in California... =/.

Hey, don't forget the Lime Jello with Pineapple chunks and have the relief society host a craft party on how to make a proper protest picket sign with typical everyday stuff like popcicle sticks.

I'd be more than happy to provide them with some Kool-Aid! :P

lol...popscicle sticks and paper doilies cut into heart shapes. Maybe that would soften their 'message'. I'd think it would be difficult to write "God hates" on a paper heart. :P

Visiting their site caused me to read Leviticus 20:23

It is amazing how one verse from the old testament can drive all this hate

and in direct conflict to the New Testament teachings of Christ.

Reading the rest of Leviticus 20, I see a whole lot of sins have the most severe punishment.,

but I guess they are selective and highly interpretive in their bible study.

I'm sure Sim Gill is firing up his office to charge Mormon bystanders with various felonies for being the schlemiels the soup falls on.

having read the licensing code for protests in SLC, it would seem to me, that Westboro would need a permit. The exception to not needing a permit is a "spontaneous" demonstration, a planned event is not spontaneous. There does not appear to be anything in the permit code which gives a blanket exemption to religions (I cant say if the SCOTUS gives a blanket exemption either)

So everyone start writing the SLTRIB, DeseretNews, and the prosecutors office, about whether Westboro needs a permit to demonstrate.

----------------------------------------

one another note, a few states, including Arizona - which Utah seems to follow in some matters of law - deems not protected speech for a group or person to directly verbally attach a person, that is the words would be deemed "fighting words" outside the protection of the 1st Amendment. (the case in Arizona involved a kid who yelled a racial slur at a individual said individual is of the race to which the slur is directed; the case Arizona followed was out of New Jersey, where a religious group yelled offensive terms at a single individual)

So, what we learn is "Mormons are Satanists" is protected because it refers to a group, however, "YOU, USU78 with your mormonism and disparagement of byu, your sir are a satanist" could be deemed fighting words and thus not protected speech.

USU78 name in this post is only a matter of convenience and nothing more.

But . . . but I AM a Mormon yBu-disparaging Satanist.
