Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 True enough and fair enough. But it isn't fair to judge everyone who speaks against the LDS teachings as "ANTI MORMON" because not everyone who speaks against Mormon teachings is ANTI Mormon.Very well. Lets not fret over this then.
RubyHunter Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I think "anti" means "against" I know that ANTI as in antichrist means against christ.I don't believe that all people who don't agree with Mormon teachings are anti mormon, they are in reality: all for Mormons and that is why they speak up against Mormon teachings.Respectfully Rev, I disagree. Being "For Mormons" but speaking out against them is a bit of an oxymoron. The whole schpeal about wanting to save us evil mormons from hell is a poorly sugar coated coverup for being Anti. But lets look at this part of your post... ...they speak up against Mormon teachings.Speaking AGAINST the Mormon teachings. If we go back a few lines in the same post, you said...I think "anti" means "against"Judging from that one post alone... Speaking AGAINST the mormon teachings is indeed, by definition, Anti-Mormon!

Bernard Gui Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I just spent some time browsing through Latayne's resume...starting at Trinity Southwest University, Albuquerque, New Mexico, from which she received her PhD and where she is chair of the "Department of Biblical Representational Research."Then spend some time at http://www.representationalresources.com/What a fascinating world we live in!Bernard
revelation Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Respectfully Rev, I disagree. Being "For Mormons" but speaking out against them is a bit of an oxymoron. The whole schpeal about wanting to save us evil mormons from hell is a poorly sugar coated coverup for being Anti. Mormons are no more evil than the rest of the entire world because ALL fall short of the glory of God. And perhaps they who are against LDS teachings are actually and in reality trying to save you from Hell beacuse perhaps in the eyes of God, they truly are right about what they consider false teachings in the LDS Church. But lets look at this part of your post... Speaking AGAINST the Mormon teachings. If we go back a few lines in the same post, you said...Judging from that one post alone... Speaking AGAINST the mormon teachings is indeed, by definition, Anti-Mormon!No it's not "anti Mormon", it's "anti teaching" which means they are all FOR Mormons!
Somebodyz Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Can you start an 'anti Mormon' thread, instead of taking this one of topic. Please.
Daniel Peterson Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 The apparently very difficult concept of anti- has been discussed innumerable times on this board. Those discussions are still accessible, the search function is relatively effective, and folks who find the idea puzzling can profitably study them.I just spent some time browsing through Latayne's resume...starting at Trinity Southwest University, Albuquerque, New Mexico, from which she received her PhD and where she is chair of the "Department of Biblical Representational Research."Then spend some time at http://www.representationalresources.com/What a fascinating world we live in!Wow. We're entering the territory of "Dr." Walter Martin and "Dr." John Ankerberg and "Dr. Dr." John Weldon and "Dr. Dr." James White. There's a whole evangelical subculture of this sort of stuff. I discuss it in the last section ("Disarmed by Degrees") of an essay entitled "Constancy amid Change" that appeared in FARMS Review 8/2 (1996):http://farms.byu.edu/publications/review/?...um=2&id=225And here's a passage from an earlier essay ("Chattanooga Cheapshot, or The Gall of Bitterness," FARMS Review 5/1 [1993]) with one of its accompanying footnotes:Some readers will recognize John Ankerberg as the silver-haired "Phil Donahue" of "Christian" television, star and impresario of a Chattanooga-based talk show that he frequently devotes to expos
ERayR Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 How do you know this person is "Anti-Mormon"? When a person speaks against the teachings of a particular religion such as the LDS, that doesn't Necessarily make them ANTI Mormon. They could be doing all that they do BECAUSE they love Mormons and because they know Mormons have been decieved.Ah!! the old I love you so I'll just have to beat some sense into your head. Pardon me if I don't have much faith in your professions of love.
ERayR Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 True enough and fair enough. But it isn't fair to judge everyone who speaks against the LDS teachings as "ANTI MORMON" because not everyone who speaks against Mormon teachings is ANTI Mormon. What does anti mean. Hint. It means opposed to, dead set against. By definition you are anti, all the professions of love to the contrary,I think "anti" means "against" I know that ANTI as in antichrist means against christ.I don't believe that all people who don't agree with Mormon teachings are anti mormon, they are in reality: all for Mormons and that is why they speak up against Mormon teachings. What???
JLFuller Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Hey People. She was invited. Take it easy on her. If you can't be civil don't invite her.
Lars Umlaut Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Can you start an 'anti Mormon' thread, instead of taking this one of topic. Please.Yes. Let's please get back to trashing the person to whom we extended an invitation to join the board.Fascinating thread.

Pardon me if I don't have much faith in your professions of love.Don't judge anyone's motives, it's not within your ability. "Do not judge..." When someone claims to be doing what they do for your good, you must take them at their word and leave the judgement up to God.
Daniel Peterson Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I echo the calls for civility, and don't believe in "trashing" Ms. Scott. She's presumably a decent person who sincerely believes what she believes.

ttribe Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 When a person is concerned about another and does truly care about them, they will be concerned with the false teachings people believe in, especially if believing in those teachings is harmful or fatal.So...the ends justify the means then.

prisonchaplain Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I haven't read your book, but I am intrigued as to whether you've managed to write something worthwhile about "DNA researchâ??s withering implications for the Book of Mormon" without embarrassing yourself. The "DNA argument" is, I think, quickly going the way of such previous goodies as "The Book of Mormon is false because it includes a French word" and "The Book of Mormon is false because it gives a female name - 'Alma' - to a male prophet."-SmacIMHO, all such arguments--including the DNA one--give rise to skepticism amongst investigators, and members who belong but do not believe. Included would surely be the 60% inactive membership, and perhaps a small portion of the attenders who come for fellowship more than faith. It's the same for all religions, and for faith in general. Groups like Jews for Jesus see the most converts from the 85% of Jews or are not religious. My guess is that most converts to your faith from out of Protestant and Catholic churches were from folk who were not terribly active or satisfied with them.I doubt there will ever be a "smoking gun," that will convince strong, faithful LDS to abandon their faith. After all, we are discussing matters of faith.
prisonchaplain Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Latayne, let's be honest. Evangelical's arguments against Mormonism border on the ridiculous. Secular atheists present much more of a threat.I've been throwing around a saying for quite some time now. "You're only narrow-minded if you're wrong. If you're right, you're just focused." I really hope that you're not suggesting that secular-atheists are more right than evangelical Christians are...especially in light of Daniel Peterson's argument that the divide between the theology of the LDS Godhead vs. that of the Holy Trinity is perhaps not so expansive as we imagined.
CQUIRK Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Don't judge anyone's motives, it's not within your ability. "Do not judge..." When someone claims to be doing what they do for your good, you must take them at their word and leave the judgement up to God.Oh really? And just what are anti-Mormons and those who "love mormons and work to save them from Hell" are doing? Your comment smacks of hypocracy sir! When a person is concerned about another and does truly care about them, they will be concerned with the false teachings people believe in, especially if believing in those teachings is harmful or fatal. You're right, I've read a lot of those anti books, or those- "books" that "love mormons" and want to "save them from damnation", and find nothing but lies and false teachings about the LDS Church and its History. Again, I'm deeply concerned that your comments are nothing but hypocracy and contridictions, and in danger of violating Matthew Chapter 7:3-5.When it comes to Hellfire, it is those that speak falsehoods and lies against the Church that should be the most concerned about their own damnation in the afterlife.
revelation Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 So...the ends justify the means then. Everything is to be done in respect and out of love for others. In that sense, every lost soul is of such great value in God's eye's that they need to come to see the false teachings they are believing in because it seperates them from God. Pointing out false teachings therefore is a great act of love. If you have a curable cancer but the doctor never tells you that, you won't ever get cured and you will die. That means also that your doctor doesn't really care about you or your life. However if he does tell you that you have cancer and believe's there is a cure, he would really be acting out of concern and care for you. You may NOT LIKE the news that you have cancer, but it's necessary for you to know that in order that you can be cured and live. So even if the news given to you is NOT something you want to hear, it still is necessary in order to be cured and so that makes it an act of care and concern.Look in the mirror and repeat the above three times. It's not a bad message for you to learn also.I am not judging your motives, I am judging your words.

e=mc2 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 True enough and fair enough. But it isn't fair to judge everyone who speaks against the LDS teachings as "ANTI MORMON" because not everyone who speaks against Mormon teachings is ANTI Mormon. Are they then pro-Mormons?! Isn't it accurate to say that if you speak *against* something, you are, well.......for lack of better words, *against* that thing?

Again, I'm deeply concerned that your comments are nothing but hypocracy and contridictions, and in danger of violating Matthew Chapter 7:3-5.How does my comment "smack of hypocrisy"? I am not judging the motives of Mormons. Certainly it's possible that there are "false teachings about the LDS Church and it's History" out there. But that doesn't mean that everything out there that incorrectly portrays LDS teachings is done with Malicious intent. Don't judge motives. It also doesn' t mean that everything out there that you feel are "lie's" about LDS teachings are in reality lie's. Maybe God has revealed something to them about false LDS teachings and you have believed the lie that they are lying. Don't judge motives. When it comes to Hellfire, it is those that speak falsehoods and lies against the Church that should be the most concerned about their own damnation in the afterlife. If someone warns you against going to Hell, that doesn' t mean it's because they see wrong or evil motives in you. It's because all humanity falls short of the glory of God and those who don't believe in free and full forgiveness have been misled or decieved into unbelief when God wants them to believe. No motives being judged here because we all are in the same boat.
revelation Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 And it would be entirely correct and appropriate to describe his actions as "anti-cancer procedures."I note, secondarily, the implication that Mormonism is the religious equivalent of cancer.Either Mormonism's teachings or Christianity's teachings are a cancer fatal to the soul. The soul of LDS and Christians alike. Shouldn't we all then be on the same side, working together to rid us all of false teaching so that we can be united just as God wants? Aren't we all in the battle against Satan together? Isn't truth of utmost and vital importance for all of us rather than clinging to false teachings that could destroy our souls for all eternity?
