Just because you couldn't secure familyhistory.org but was able to buy FamilySearch.org, we have to rebrand Family History centers as FamilySearch (as one word, like the website name) centers instead of at least two words? Lame. It sounds like a commercial service now.

I don't know if I'm on the same wavelength here, but I really hate the animated videos that seem so similar to Jehovah Witness ones that I've seen the church put out.

It makes it easier to connect the two and publicizes the service’s availability, so understandable imo, but I will miss the more interesting and nicer sounding name just as I really miss having “genealogy”, which is a cool sounding word, as a common part of church conversation.

It is not just Jehovah Witnesses, it is a very popular and currently effective style from what I have been told if we are thinking of the same ones.  I am not too fond of them myself, but also don’t dislike them.  There were some awhile back I really liked, but it may have been the novelty.

It is kind of like watching great CGI in films now, I used to get caught up and even overwhelmed by the experience of seeing fantasy as reality, like dreams coming to life, but now I am just disappointed when it comes off fake.  At least it is still very enjoyable when it is beautiful.

I guess I'm old school. I have good memories of the church as a child, but understand that it's a global church now.

Unless I am thinking of a different series, it’s a style that is popular in the US.  I would say most of the ‘flavour’ of church productions is American, but it would be great if I am wrong.

Maybe a link to the animated videos you are talking about so I know we are not discussing two different things.  :)

Now I feel like I immediately judged back when I saw a similar format. Because this one from the LDS church is really good. Below is one from Jehovah's Witness and they're not bad. It was just my initial reaction when the church started posting videos. Because I thought it was trying to be like other faiths I guess. Boy I'm critical. Need to change my ways.

You like to understand how things work and interrelate.  Not a bad thing.  You haven’t from what you have said the training on how to best explore and research, so it’s probably a bit haphazard for you (I may be projecting my mom on to you here, she lacked the training having been an art major and had limited resources; books she picked up in popular bookstores or heard about on radio or TV; I so wish she had the internet like I do when she could have made use of it).  And you sound like you have a busy life.  It is not surprising you don’t waste much time with judgments, so sometimes they aren’t that great.  You are braver than most of us in being willing to share than before you are sure you want get criticized.  And to admit you may have been hasty rather than just disappearing so you don’t have to deal with criticism or correction.  I admire you for sticking around for so long, putting up with me and my obsessive need to provide you with more info and a different view (it is a family characteristic that I take to an extreme).

I don't know what I would do without this board. This enabled me to type better, use grammar better, and get my gripes out and learn from mistakes, and have a better outlook on how others believe, and learn from people of all faiths and cultures and walk of life! This board is an education that I likely wouldn't get from the best schools in the world. So the internet is a godsend, and maybe a curse if used in a damaging way.

I appreciate your feedback Calm, although we're nearly the same age, your wisdom/knowledge is similar to my mother's so you can give advice any time. My mom was a faithful member, with intelligence beyond my own. I can't wait to be with her again.

And back to the handbook, thanks for sharing @bsjkki!
