I have ordered food at restaurants that definitely needed more seasoning. And since the author ordered ramen himself instead of the yakisoba, how on earth could he possibly know whether or not it was properly seasoned? That being said, I personally have a teenager who puts salt on pretty much everything - though soy sauce functions as an acceptable alternative when we're out at an Asian restaurant. My general attitude (possibly similar to Sanderson the Elder's) has always been that I don't really care how you like your food so long as you actually eat it. I mean, sure, I might joke about there being "right" ways to eat certain foods (e.g., BBQ -> Texas-style; Chili -> Zero Beans; Steak -> Medium Rare), but at the end of the day I know people have different tastes and preferences, so why should it bother me that not everyone likes the exact same things I do? I mean, shouldn't I actually want that to be the case - not for diversity's sake mind you, but because that way there's more of the good stuff left over for me? 2

At least that's how I felt until I went out to eat with my father at a fancy steak house one time and saw the look on the server's face when my father ordered his steak well done...and then again when he sent it back to the kitchen (twice!) until they got it cooked to his satisfaction. I remember thinking to myself, 'Yeah, there's no way I would ever eat that personally, but who on earth are you to look down at my dad for liking what he likes?' I mean, it isn't like there's some sort of Platonic ideal for steak doneness - though, if there is, I'm guessing would be right around 130° F. Ever since then I have just taken a much more laissez-faire approach to these sorts of things. 2
