I love the standard-issue vacuum cleaner on the right side wall: image.png.3d0c643997e0060c69f3a64389411cd9.png

I joined the Church as a nearby college student in 1975. My first trip there was on a lark, to take an investigating roommate there at midnight just for kicks. No security at all; we parked the car on the road and climbed to the top, taking a steep "shortcut" off the path. And he did have a significant experience there and joined the Church after all! I went to the 1976 and 1977 pageants with him and other college buddies as part of a summer road trip with a much wider range of interests represented among us (no conversions from that enterprise, but lots of fun and entertainment!).

Has the hill ever been excavated, in terms of any possible archeology that might  be there?

Well, of course. But, the Limited Geography acolytes found all the good stuff and buried it in Mesoamerica so that the Great Lakes Book of Mormon advocates wouldn't have any "evidence" on their side. Ah well.

Ok I've read the Wikepedia stuff now. Many years ago (late 60s) my friends and I were investigating the LDS church and along with the BoM we were given a large book which was a sort of companion to their teachings. I can't remember the name of the book, it was a hardback book with a picture of the Salt Lake Temple on the front. Anyhow, this work lead to the conclusion that the BoM was a record of people who settled in Mesoamerica. Obviously in the intervening years there has been some challenges to this idea, so where do you fall in this debate? I didn't become LDS btw, but my friends did, so I have been totally unaware of the debate.

My response was very much in the non-serious vein.
