When was the day of rest?

This question was sparked in a different thread. 
 

genesis 1-2 seems to suggest that God created man on the 6th day, rested, then put Adam and Eve in the garden. The temple suggests that man was created and placed in the garden prior to the day of rest.

If the former is true, I wonder what “man” did during the day of rest.

Perhaps the day of rest was the period of time between the placement of Adam and Eve in the garden and the actual partaking of the fruit?

This isn’t that important of a question, just curious. Thoughts?

The temple endowment and genesis says man was formed on the sixth day. What does your reference come from?

Here is the whole original context.  It could be presenting created man out of the dust as a separate sentence (period after it and a capital And) and therefore event, one that did not happen on the seventh day though, punctuation and capitalization not being fixed, etc

It seems to suggest that God was still finishing up His work at the beginning of the seventh day, in the same way He will be finishing sanctifying the earth at the beginning of the seven thousand years which make up the millenium.

I always thought that God planted a garden, made a man to be the gardener on the sixth day so that on the seventh day the man would not rest, but do the works of God while God rested. There was not a law for man to keep the Sabbath, which was God's resting day, until the Israelites sinned and the Mosaic Law came to be. The Law applies to Israelites, not other people, such as the Gentiles who became Christians and not Jews first.

Adam had his rest before Eve was created. That ought to be pretty darn obvious.

For her part, Eve has never had a day of rest and is giving Adam the "what for" as much as she can.
