2021 Caring for those in Need annual report

It cites $906 million in expenditures. That's probably cumulative and not just 2021. The 3909 humanitarian projects is just 2021. I'm am quite pleased with the depth and breadth of humanitarian and service we as a Church do.

Edit: I accept Calm's argument. I had gotten $100 million vs $100 billion mixed in my head (the Church's investments are worth $100+ billion, not million and so expenditures of $0.9 billion make much more sense than if we only had $100+ million in assets. Thank you Calm!

Doesn’t look cumulative to me.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints engaged in 3,909 humanitarian projects in 188 countries in 2021. This outreach, an increase from 2020, included $906 million in expenditures and 6.8 million hours of voluntary service from everyday Latter-day Saints.

We were at 2.5 billion for LDS Charities in 2020, but they seemed to have significantly raised spending last few years.

Since 1985, Latter-day Saint Charities and its affiliates have provided over US$2.5 billion worth of assistance in 199 countries and territories. This amount does not include the value of volunteer labor, worth many millions of dollars.

They did massive Covid responses:

Quote

1 billion vaccine doses distributed.

80 million pounds of food donated.

Over 105,000 individual donors at Church-sponsored blood drives.

199 emergency response projects in 61 countries and territories.

585 COVID-19 projects in 76 countries and territories.

Also, not unusual these days to spend $900 million a year.  For me, I am wondering if the $900 million is in addition to welfare this year because it didn’t say “humanitarian and welfare” this time.

But the funds used by Latter-day Saint Charities are only a small part of the church’s combined annual humanitarian and welfare aid expenditures, which approach $1 billion a year, the news release says.
