bsjkki Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 (edited) Anyone have any favorite talks from today or quotes they would like to share. I loved many! I've been waiting to see what everyone thought and there wasn't a thread. Edited April 3, 2021 by bsjkki 1
Chum Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 (edited) Brother Renlund's talk, counseling us to be a catcher of stones hurled at the vulnerable. The lesson was a solid redemption for the awful analogy he led with - siblings in bizarro world where everything is equal. Reality would have had the sister earn 70% of what her brother did, for the same chores. Edited April 3, 2021 by Chum
Chum Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 I'm setup to crappost during priesthood session. Don't know yet if I'm going thru with it.
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 (edited) I'm totally going to publish excerpts of priesthood without written consent. Edited April 4, 2021 by Chum

Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I used to wish I lived in a ward where Aaronic priesthood did stuff I heard about in conferences.
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 That Tongan Bishop had a vision for his YM/YW - and acted on it. I believe a vision makes the difference between service that moves the ward ahead and service that just performs maintenance. 2
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 "We recommend Bishops not have Ministering Families" (to aid them in focusing on YW/YM programs). I like this supportive guidance.
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 "We have 30,900 Bishops and Branch Presidents serving across the world."
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I agree with Bro Cook's assessment of how complex and resource intensive it is to serve as a bishop. I generally don't see people serving Church callings as elevated in any way but the load a bishop carries garners default respect from me. 1
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I am told that 'I shouted for joy to come to a fallen world'. Yeah, I doubt I actually did that. I'm sure my memory was wiped for a reason. 1
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 "A football game might not be as important as the challenges you face" It seems possible that none of my challenges may rise to the importance of sportsball. 1
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 "You may never be called to act on behalf of the First Presidency" What diff does that make? First Pres, RSP, EQP - it's all the same. I need Bro Corbitt again.
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Pres Eyring's voice tonight - did he suddenly start smoking? Earlier he was walking like his back is out. If so he's mustering on like everything is good. God bless him. 1
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Just now, Chum said: Pres Eyring's voice tonight - did he suddenly start smoking? NM. He sounds pretty good now.
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I'm super grateful for whatever softened Pres Eyring's heart over the last decade. His tone used to be so much more rigid and stern. It was like the changes that happened to Gordon B Hinckley after he was called to be prophet. His talks went from brutally harsh to warm and approachable.
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I once gave a blessing to a brother who was having bad headaches. His health was no different than any other day in his life but what came out was that he needed to get his affairs in order. Next morning, another blessing - same guidance. I felt fairly terrible and confused by it. He passed away that night from an unexpected seizure.
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I'm trying to imagine Pres Oaks softening the same way Pres Eyring and Pres Hinckley did. I'm not succeeding.
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Maybe I like Pres Oaks more than I think I do. He's a mess of contradictions. His considerate advocacy of other faiths compared against his law+order hardline is one example.
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 PSA: Randy Funk (Seventy) is the best possible name for a human being. This can't be said enough. 2
Chum Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I like the tone of tonight's priesthood much more than past sessions. Other years felt like an endless accounting of shortcomings, made me feel like I wanted to wrap my car around a tree. Tonight feels like the GA care more about me than they do about sin. 2
