And the Lamanites did give unto us the land northward, yea, even to the narrow passage which led into the land southward. And we did give unto the Lamanites all the land southward. Mormon 2: 29.

So the narrow passage is the spit of land between the Pacific and Lake Nicaragua? And the "narrow neck" is a passage in Panama per your other thread?

I would be interested in a more comprehensive explanation of your geographical proposal.

A casual reading of the Book of Mormon may give the impression that these narrow necks of land, are the same, because they are described in reference to lands Northward and Southward, which is understandable because their entire territory  was oriented North to South .However the accompanying description of the land which they separate, reveal that they are not referring to the same location. One divide the land Zarahemla in the South from Bountiful in the North and this occurred at the Panama Canal as I said. The other divide the Land Desolation /Nicaragua on the North, from the Land Bountiful / Costa Rica, on the South, and this occurred at Lake Nicaragua. .The Nephite were driven into the Northern extremity of their territories at this point in their history, therefore all geographic references at that point was to their Southern enemies, the Lamanites.

i think the area around Guatemala is a better fit than that area you think it was in.  I think they would have wanted more than land around them than in the area you are thinking.  Up to the Yucatan or over more to the west to Mexico and the US.

Wherever they were Moroni ended up walking all the way to the New York area.

The land we call  Nicaragua / Desolation  serve  the same function as the Land of Benjamin/Jerusalem in Israel, therefore the  righteous descendants of Lehi who escaped the destruction of Old Jerusalem, were themselves destroyed in their unrighteousness, at a corresponding location in the New World..

The geographic references given for the lands bordering Desolation and Bountiful, identifies two specific land marks , a “ Narrow Passage “  and lands which took a “ Day and a Half to Cross” to cross. On the Western side of Lake Nicaragua is the “Narrow Passage”, while on the Eastern side of the lake is the land that takes a “Day and a Half to Cross”. These features identify Nicaragua as the land Desolation , these geographic markers do not exist in Guatemala or relate to the other markers given for the various lands to the South. On a purely geographic basis I make these claims.

From this narrow passage / neck of land, Hagoth built and launched his Ships into the West Sea, and by sailing Eastward across Lake Nicaragua to  it outlet in the San Juan River, he could and probably did send ships into the Caribbean Sea. Alma 63:4-9

Narrow is a relative term and there are several areas which could be considered narrow.  It wasn't necessarily the narrowest area that we can now find on a modern map.

And the size of an area that takes a "Day and a Half to Cross" is relative to how fast the person who says that is moving.  The people we now call Native Americans often ran at a jog pace instead of walking when traveling, so that would mean covering more ground in that time.

I don't recall where there was a mention of a "Day and a Half to Cross".  Where did you get that idea?

Of course the geography was shaken up a bit around 3 Nephi.  The same markers may not exist today.

[Alma 22:32 ]  describes a portion of the border between Desolation and Bountiful, that takes a day and a half to cross, which is East of Lake Nicaragua .
[Mormon 3:5, 2:29] further describe the narrow portion to the West of Lake Nicaragua.
