What we should all aspire too have a pioneer spirit.

Today I buried and attended a funeral of my first Bishop (after the Army) and a great man, and never a better friend and a Mighty Man of God. He joined the Church,it  had were barely 2,000,000 members (if not less) in the whole world. However in Georgua in the 60's, barely two or three thousand in the entire State. He helped to build the third Church building ever built in the Satate. He was a pioneer in every way. When I got out of the the Army, he was the first face I saw, first hand I shook, (and again)my the first  Bishop. At that time there were only 4,000,000+ members or less, making us both pioneers of a growing Church. Today, Georgaia numbers 100,000 to 200,000+ (Maybe more)  and still expanding  at a lightening pace. Due to our Pioneed spirit.

I found many mistake I made, hope I corrected all. I was so tired from lack of sleep, and find I make so many more mistakes this way. I fear that rather then keep embarrassing myself in this way, it may be better to stop, or have my wife dictate as I speak. So, Please forgive my rambling.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

My condolences on the temporary loss of your friend Bill. Some of my best friends have been LDS. He sounds like as loyal a friend as a person could ask for. I'm sure you were back.

When I joined the Church in '76, it was small in Florida but not that small. It grew fast. I met some wonderful people in those years. One of our current apostles was my stake president for awhile. I didn't personally know him, but my wife did, and remembers his wife as being one of the most kindly people she knew in the Church.

Bill,

   hanks for your post remembering a great friend. I especially like your view that we should all embrace the opportunity to be pioneers in the Gospel. That is pretty much what I advocated with one of my sons and his wife recently. 

  He was attending a ward in Wake Forrest (and a wonderful ward at that) which had become to big for the meeting house. It already hosts two other wards, so another split just did not seem feasible. My son was called to become a member of a newly created branch in Creedmoor, NC. He and his wife were disappointed. They had made great friends in their ward and were teaching a class where many were ready to be baptized. They were feeling more than a bit sad to leave those environs.

   I pointed out to them that they were not losing any friends, but were being given the opportunity to be pioneers in a new branch and would be foundational members with the chance to make a huge impact on how well that branch "got off the ground." Whether or not that advice was accepted is immaterial, but they do seem to be embracing their new branch. It is quickly becoming a leader in baptisms in the stake.
