Ginger Snaps Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 In D&C 138:31 in this case because that's where I'm reading, but I've seen it elsewhere in the scriptures as well. I think it originates with Isaiah. I've never been able to puzzle out exactly what the phrase means. Does it refer to the millennium?

It means the period of time when the Lord is ready and prepared to accept into his kingdom the repentant who come unto him in faith. But the day will come when there will be "time no more," I.e. when the the acceptable day of the Lord will be over. Those who have not repented by the time the acceptable day of the Lord is expired will become the sons of perdition. The day of final judgement will eventually come and when it does those who are filthy (unforgiven) will remain "filthy still" (remain unforgiven and not redeemed into a kingdom of glory). It all boils down to the fact that in the Lord's economy there is an eventual time limit for repentance. Edited June 8, 2017 by Bobbieaware 2

What work is the work of the Millennial period? The completion of all the sealing of the family of God and presenting of the records. D&C 124:24 Behold, the great day of the Lord is at hand; and who can abide the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fuller’s soap; and he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness. Let us, therefore, as a church and a people, and as Latter-day Saints, offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness; and let us present in his holy temple, when it is finished, a book containing the records of our dead, which shall be worthy of all acceptation. So what is being accepted in the great day of the Lord? The completed records of all his children at the end of the Millennial period. 2
Ginger Snaps Posted June 8, 2017 Author Posted June 8, 2017 Thanks all. I can't believe I didn't think to check the Institute manual! This clears some things up for me. I notice in the Bible, the phrase is "acceptable year of the Lord" but I assume it's the same idea?

Yes, I would say it is the same idea. 1
