One of the great piano players, songwriters passed away yesterday. He played piano for many stars from the Carpenters, he wrote their hit Superstar, all of the Beach Boy albums, Frank Sinatra and on an on. He had a rough voice and partial paralysis on his right side from birth. He fused rock, jazz, classical and country into his music. He wrote Masquerade for George Benson and Delta Lady for Joe Cocker. A Song For You has been recorded by over 100 artists.  It's my favorite along with Back to the Islands and Lady Blue.RIP Leon.

Truly sad to lose a man of almost unparalleled, talent, via production, singing and one of the greatest songwriters? A sad day for all around my age, if not more! Now he sings for the Angels. :(

Why have I never heard of him, love the sound of his voice.

I didn't know that he wrote so many of my favorite songs!  In the late 70's I went to the last BREAD concert in SLC at the Salt Palace.  In the middle of the concert, the drummer came down and sat at the piano...he played a very familiar song..that he wrote.  It was Bridge Over Troubled Waters.  I had no idea..he was so anonymous to me..it was amazing ...So Simon and Garfunkel had a little help too.

He also played with George Harrison at the concert for Bangladesh as well as recording country music under the name Hank Wilson.
