theplains Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 I had a question on this part of the Book of Mormon. 1 Nephi 17:38 - "And he leadeth away the righteous into precious lands, and the wicked he destroyeth, and curseth the land unto them for their sakes." Apart from the Book of Mormon stories about the Jaredites, Nephites, and the Mulekites being led to 'somewhere in the Americas', what do you consider as the precious lands and the cursed lands in our day? Thanks, Jim The USA used to be precious, I believe we no longer are. The violence is just beginning, we no longer care what our political opponents think. We have no desire to compromise and that is not even counting the racial strife. I read the comments in every major newspaper that puts them online. The things we say to each other are disgusting. There is no pretense of civility. I literally weep for my country. 3

When the people are righteous they are blessed, when the people turn away from righteousness they are cursed. Look how great our U.S. has gotten, and look at how much it is degrading, even as we turn away further and further from God, as a whole. I am amazed at how large our debt has not only gotten, but is still getting at an ever increasing rate. (http://www.usdebtclock.org/) I don't think there are enough riches in the whole world to cover this unfathomable debt. To me it is kind of amazing how things seem to get worse as we take God out of things. The timing of taking religious monuments away from government buildings and then the Uni-Bomber attacks a federal building, or taking prayer out of schools just before Columbine shootings, etc.. I'm waiting to see what is going to happen now that there is SSM. I'm sure that many people just mark these things off as coincidence, but I tend to see things the other way and am sad to watch the downfall of a once great nation. I guess it served it's purpose though and made it possible for the gospel to get restored, because there was religious freedom (although it was still very difficult even with those freedoms, those early saints sure did get abused) It all makes me want to take the prophets' heed to stand in holy places, all the more seriously. Just my two cents worth anyway. 1
