I recall the scuttlebutt earlier on was that Jon Huntsman Sr. was interested in buying the paper but wouldn't touch it as long as it was encumbered with a lawsuit. So if that be true, the lawsuit could be viewed as a hindrance as much as a help to a purchase of the paper and, in fact, the purchase could not have gone forward had Citizens for Two Voices not elected to stand down. I suspect there has been a lot of behind-the-scenes talking going on leading up to the events of recent days.

The irony of the matter is that many of those crying for "two voices" were silent at best back in the '90s when the Tribune management was trying to kill the Deseret News by preventing it from going to morning publication. And they wern't all that alarmed in 2010 when the Deseret News was struggling to cope with a dizzyingly sudden downturn in the industry by laying of a third of its workforce and restructuring. Two voices? Nah. They'd be content if the Trib were the only option.
