Call Upon Me While I Am Near

I've been reading D&C 88 a bit lately and I came across this verse.

"And again, verily I say unto you, my friends, I leave these sayings with you to ponder in your hearts, with this commandment which I give unto you, that ye shall call upon me while I am near—" D&C 88:68

If we are to call upon Him while He is near, does that mean at some time in the future He won't be near? Where will He go and how will we know when He has gone?

Will we still have the blessings of the Holy Spirit then? Will we still receive revelation?

On a personal level, His "nearness" and "farness," respectively, varies with our own commitment.  I don't think He is suggesting that we cannot call upon Him even when we have "removed ourselves afar off."  Indeed, that's when we need Him (and hence, when we need to call upon Him) the most.  I simply think that we're most apt to feel His influence when we're nearest to Him: hence, his entreaty to call upon Him while He is near.

I'm with Kenngo on this. I think it has to do with 2 Nephi 26:11, "For the Spirit of the Lord will not always strive with man. And when the Spirit ceaseth to strive with man then cometh speedy destruction, and this grieveth my soul." We are vulnerable to the adversary, so when we strive against the Spirit, we separate ourselves further from the Lord, and so would lose blessings of the Spirit and revelation. Not that we can't ever repent, of course.
