thesometimesaint Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Let’s see. This year, I’ve cut my water consumption by 30% in response to the California drought and kept my monthly electric bill under $50.00, despite an unusually hot and humid summer. And I have been very active in a community effort opposing a proposed oil extraction project. (I do not oppose “Big Oil,” or oil production, per se). What have you done? Cut my water consumption by over 95% by going to drought tolerant plants. Installed drip irrigation, and use plenty of my own made mulch in my garden. Using an on/off button on my shower. Went to dual flush toilets. Wash my dishes by hand when its just the two of us, save the dishwasher for when the Grands come over. Reduced my mains electric use to about $5 per month by installing solar electric. We live in a hot dry part of California. but get charged at Orange County usage rates. Use high efficiency appliances and electronics. We replaced nearly all light bulbs with fluorescent or LED's. Turn off electronics when not in use, and employ anti-vampire load protectors. Turn off air conditioning when night time temps get to about 65 degrees. House stays cool till about 2-3 in the afternoon. Drive a mid sized car that gets 20 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway. Keep it excellent repair. Next car(next year) will be a hybrid. Consolidate trips whenever possible. Recycle paper, metal, plastic, and glass. Give the aluminum cans to the Grands so they get the money for them. Just a few of the things I've done.

Every time I cut my Kw hours of electricity usage the power company tacks on a surcharge and my bill goes up. Less usage they chargr more per Kw hour. Everyone needs to get back on topic for the thread to stay open.
TheSkepticChristian Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 (edited) Already on limited ... cruising toward banned? My presence here won't end world hunger, so I won't mind. Do you care about what Pope Francis is saying? If not, why comment here? PS I am respecting the rules, you are not because you are changing the subject. PS I am respecting the rules, you are not because you are changing the subject. Wrap yourself in that cloak of sanctimony all you like. I'm not buying it. I don't call insulting another poster as you did earlier in the thread "respecting the rules": your respect seems awfully selective. 1

I didn't insult anyone, I understand you don't like me, but let's talk about Pope Francis and his teachings, not about me. Let's talk about the poor, charity, compassion. thesometimesaint Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I disagree with the Pope on a number of theological issues. If I didn't I'd be Catholic. OTOH I give him kudos for taking a stand on important moral, and environmental stewardship issues we all face.
Kenngo1969 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I didn't insult anyone ...Baloney. Anyone with at least one marginally-good eye and at least half a functioning brain (and/or with the technology necessary to cope with a vision and/or an intellectual deficit) read it for what it was. Anyway, have fun trying to convince everyone else it's raining while you pee on their legs. I'm out.
