The Fullness Of The Gospel

The Gospel has nothing to family including wives :)

Luke 18:29 “Yes,” Jesus replied, “and everyone who has done as you have, leaving home, wife, brothers, parents, or children for the sake of the Kingdom of God, 30will be repaid many times over now, as well as receiving eternal life in the world to come.”

so you ignore the verses about family?  Again, was peter married?

You can explain, you cannot defend.  I cannot find anywhere where indulgences were to be sold for money......

As for celibacy...since Peter was your first Pope...what was his marital status?

For that matter, what did the Bible say should be charged for baptisms?  Marriage?  funerals?

How much did the Apostles earn?

Just curious

Wow. Angry at us or at yourself for having been Catholic?

Anyway...start a thread if you want. Apparently you haven't figured out that HOLY CATHOLIC is Reformed/Protestant/Evangelical/not Roman Catholic. He knows as well as I do that Peter was married and he'll agree with a lot of your anti-Catholicism. But this thread is about what you believe as a Mormon. Maybe you should deal with that. I don't guess it would be appropriate to muddle it up with what you seem to particularly not like, the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church.

Dunno...let's go ask Cardinal Law if he will sell us some indulgences.......

He isn't a Roman Catholic.  (I see that 3DOP already pointed this out)

Angry?  Not at all.  I simply have my way of responding.  You know...the whole, "don't throw stones if you live in glass houses".

You want to knock another faith.....make sure yours is problem-free.

Thankfully that isn't a problem with 3DOP.  :)

The scriptures are clear family is none important so doesn't matter if Peter was or wasn't married

I know Peter was married. There is a custom of giving the priest a stipend for a wedding and funeral for those of us who love our good priests. I have never heard of a stipend for a baptism. No priest worthy of his calling has ever refused someone a sacrament because of money. As the Gospel for the Second Sunday after Easter says, The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep, and if some have proven to be wolves, it is no reflection on the good shepherds.

But it sounds like a good idea. As the Gospel for the Second Sunday after Easter says, The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep, and if some have proven to be wolves, it is no reflection on the good shepherds.

A stipend is a salary, Mormons say they give stipends to their leaders but refuse to use the word salary since they claim to have no paid workers :)

Yes, the scriptuers are clear on family...

6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;

8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Every Catholic Church I have been to charges for marriages, baptisms, etc.  You even have to put a deposit down.  I have searched the Scriptures for where Jesus did that...but can't find anything.  I have searched for Peter getting paid....but, all I can see is that he had a job apart from preaching....kinda like LDS Bishops.....

I quoted that Jesus wasn't concerned about physical families, that's in the scripture.

We know for certain that Peter was married because he had a mother-in-law (Matthew 8:14). :)

Paul said better not to marry

1 Corinthians 7

1 Now about those questions you asked in your last letter: my answer is that if you do not marry, it is good. 2 But usually it is best to be married, each man having his own wife, and each woman having her own husband, because otherwise you might fall back into sin.

6 I’m not saying you must marry, but you certainly may if you wish. 7I wish everyone could get along without marrying, just as I do. But we are not all the same. God gives some the gift of a husband or wife, and others he gives the gift of being able to stay happily unmarried. 8S o I say to those who aren’t married and to widows—better to stay unmarried if you can, just as I am. 9 But if you can’t control yourselves, go ahead and marry. It is better to marry than to burn with lust.

Etc. What are you talking about, "...etc."?

My daughter was married at our church...free. My son was married at his wife's church...free. My whole family was baptized into the Catholic Church...free. Fourteen sacraments in one day...free. My son is going to a Catholic seminary...free. I gave the priest a hundred dollars when he assisted at my Dad's burial. There was no "deposit". They sent our son to the Phillippines for formation...free.

if family is "none important," why were Adam and Eve married by God himself in the garden of Eden and commanded to have children before the fall? If the ideal paradisical state before the fall Included an immortal husband and an immortal wife who were commanded of God to become "one flesh," why is it your belief that when men and women are redeemed from the fall they don't return back to the perfect Edenic model of existence? If the Lord said it's not good for man to be alone while in the pre-fall paradisical state, why was his solution to the only undesirable situation that existed prior to the fall the creation of a wife whom God said would be Adam's eternal companion and helpmeet? If marriage is not eternally important, why would Adam and Eve have remained married forever in Paradise if not for the fall? Can you deny that in the paradisical state, before the fall, that the man and the woman were created to be married forever? Married life was of utmost importance to God begore the fall, so the Latter-day Saints testify to the world that married life will remain important to God after the redemption from the fall. Ours is a perfectly logical and consistent position and we are delighted to hold it.

1 Corinthians 9

1 Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord? 2 If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

3 Mine answer to them that do examine me is this, 4 Have we not power to eat and to drink? 5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? 6 Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working? 7Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? 8 Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? 10Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. 11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? 12If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. 13Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

Continuing on with the scripture...

15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
