ERayR Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 As for no recording it removes the ability to "play to the camera". 3
rpn Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 The church could never release a full transcript, even if/when a doctored transcript/video is released. That said, I think it is interesting that JD wants to use the DC as a stage for his own statements, and I think it interesting that the stake president thinks he will honor any agreement not to record, even if he signs it. The SP would be much smarter to employ someone to check for recording devices (the HC could be surreptitiously wired any day of the week in most buildings) before and during.
Kenngo1969 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) Not bad money for a grad student: http://www.sltrib.com/lifestyle/faith/2146441-155/mormon-facing-excommunication-makes-his-living?page=2 $90,000.00 in one year. Net $60k or $70k Wow! I read somewhere else that he pays himself a salary of $40,000.00 from the foundation. So some of that money probably goes out to causes he supports or into administrative costs. With the typical compensation of a counselor or social worker, he's better off staying in the religious commentary and interview business than he is finishing his degree. But he is in the process of possibly loosing his connection that gives him appeal. The Big, Bad, Mean, Evil Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is trying to take away Dehlin's livelihood! rockpond Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 The Big, Bad, Mean, Evil Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is trying to take away Dehlin's livelihood! I'm certain that is not the intent of Dehlin's SP.
Robert F. Smith Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 The one podcast that I have listened to, that with Brandt Gardner, Dehlin didn't seem to be very familiar with Gardner's work on the Book of Mormon, or with the Book of Mormon itself. Correct. I listened to all four hours of his Gardner interview, and I was dumbfounded by Dehilin's naivete. What is worse, Dehlin purposely fails to prepare for such interviews, claiming that he gains more spontanaiety thereby. The best interviewers I know of (Doug Fabrizio, Charlie Rose, and Tavis Smiley, for example) prepare assiduously, thus getting the most out of key interviews. 2

Anti-Mormons have often used recording devices to surreptitiously get the goods on the Mormons. For example, anti-Mormon Presbyterian Minister Wes Walters recorded a private conversation with the late Apostle LeGrand Richards and then published the audio and a transcript. The Tanners didn't like that and forced Walters to pull the audio and print. We'll see whether Dehlin has integrity in this matter. 1
