New Church Policy: Families To Decide What Working Arrangement Best Meets Their Needs

Well, color me dumb again. I thought Seminary and Institute instruction were callings, and didn't receive any pay.

Perhaps there are still some areas in the Church where that is the case.

In Utah, and other areas rich with Church members, seminary teacher and administrator is apt to be a full-time, paid, career position requiring a college degree. That is even more apt to be the case in Church institutes of religion.

Edited to add:

Here's a page that gives a rundown on careers in seminary and institute.

If this is to alleviate economic struggles families face, as some have suggested, it is no solution at all. How about, instead of encouraging more and more mothers to be out of the home and leaving their children to the school/daycare fiasco, they start working on getting local level consecration programs going? Seems this is getting further away from the Celestial Financial Law and inadvertently encouraging the decay of the family. But whatever... not my circus, not my monkeys.

I am guessing because it would destroy us. I have no doubt God is eager to return the law and its blessing to us. The second we are ready. We are clearly not.

If He is pushing you further and further away from His Law- don't you have reason to worry?

Probably for most who teach it yes, especially if they teach early morning seminary.  But there are many places that have released time seminary during the day and with multiple classes to teach that means having to have full time instructors…which mean they need to be able to make a living.

I taught early morning seminary in California for many years.  While the bishop asks you to teach seminary, there is still a small payment made to early morning seminary teachers. At the time it was $599 per year.  The church did this so that they didn't have to send out W-2 forms which are required if they were to pay $600 during a year period.

I don't know of any seminary teacher who taught for the paycheck for obvious reasons.  Early morning seminary is a part of CES.  And while I taught early morning seminary, I also had a church calling, Most of the time it was in Young Mens.  They did release me from teaching seminary when I was called into a bishopric.  They thought both callings were far too time intensive.  I didn't disagree.
