Hagoth - Where Did His Ships Go?

Ask Mark Twain how fun it would be to SAIL UP the Mississippi with its sand bars and eddy currents etc. Possible perhaps but not without extensive scouting and shallow keel boats with oars. A hiker would be well ahead of a boatman most of the way.

With all the claims that the Nephites were restricted to Mesoamerica but sailed to other lands, I'm surprised at the claim that Moroni walked to New York. Why didn't he just sail up the Mississippi and Ohio rivers?

He was on the run and didn't have the fare to book passage. H*** I don't know, maybe he wanted to visit friends who were refugees and emigrated to stay out of the great war.   Maybe he just wanted to walk.

Because the current is too strong?

Perhaps because the Lord led him through areas he could not go  by way of river. Say to Utah to dedicate a few temple sites. Just guessing.

From central Mexico to New York via Utah is about 3200 miles. Assuming Moroni walked at 3 mph for 8 hours a day ,5 days a week it would take him about 6 months for the journey. And he wandered for how many years? Plenty of time to play hide and seek with the other tribes he encountered. He may have even spent time with some of the friendlier ones while his blisters healed.
