teddyaware Posted January 24, 2014 Author Posted January 24, 2014 When God makes this a "young new earth" we'll talk about the science.I'll be sure to look you up and ask you about your newly informed opinions if the Lord clearly demonstrates His infinite and eternal power can create worlds, and living beings, slowly or quickly depending on the need. Remember, if the word of the Lord is true, He's going to create a race of millions of immortal super-humans out of dust, in the twinkling of an eye. Or do you believe it's going to take millions of years for us to organically evolve into celestial beings? I can ask this question respectfully and sincerely because I have no dog in this fight due to the fact that I'm determined to keep an open mind till the Lord Himself reveals exactly how He created the heavens, the earth and man. 1

No argument there. My only comment would be that some have a rather limited idea as to what is slow and quick to an eternal being. Chemically we're closer to ancient sea water than we are to dust. But I'm fine with going back to materials from which my physical body is made, as long as my spirit returns to God. JS said it would be a great work. I have a hard enough time with calculus and can't imagine learning everything that it takes to make worlds and people them wouldn't also be a great work. The science says that it roughly took 4.54 billions of years to form our planet and people this earth. My religion says it took 6 indeterminate time periods for God to do it. So my question remains what is a few billion years to eternal beings?

So my question remains what is a few billion years to eternal beings? And I agree. The only point I might mention with respect to whether or not it's going to take millions or billions of earth years to learn to become like God is the following verse found in D&C:13237 Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness, because they were given unto him, and he abode in my law; as Isaac also and Jacob did none other things than that which they were commanded; and because they did none other things than that which they were commanded, they have entered into their exaltation, according to the promises, and sit upon thrones, and are not angels but are gods. This is speaking of the status (not Facebook status) of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the middle of the 19th century. So unless these patriarchs are special cases, it may not take as long to obtain exaltation as some may think.

I don't know how polygamy will work out in the eternities. For the earthly sociological perspective it is unsustainable over long periods of time for more that a rare few. My suspicion is that it is allowable but not encouraged or mandatory.

Of course God can do pretty much as he wants, but all the evidence presented so far is that great works take great time, and I intent to have a great time.
