Stone holm Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Great! Put that optimism to work in your community!I am, but Vermont is susceptible to the effects of the inaction elsewhere , although we are sheltered better than the arid western states, nevertheless would like my great grandchildren to have the opportunity to make maple syrup without moving to Northern Canada.

Possibly concentrate less on sexual issues?
CV75 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Possibly concentrate less on sexual issues?I went over that already.
Stone holm Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 I went over that already. I see so the Church abstains from discussing things beyond individual morality? What if that morality gets set aside by, "its nothing personal, just business" type attitude? Do we not have some accountability to the World in that regard? Seems like Christ had a somewhat larger mission than that don't you think?

Seems like Christ had a somewhat larger mission than that don't you think? If morality gets reduced to memorizing endless lists of rules the concept is useless. Christ taught it this way "love the Lord your God with all your heart . . ." and "love your neighbor as thyself. . . If one is careful not to offend God or harm your neighbor then one is not apt to harm the environment.

ERayR Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 True. That pretty much eliminates the need to organize doesn't it. Nope an organization is needed to get the word out to the world. In case you hadn't heard let me introduce you to a missionary from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

ERayR Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Point is that morality should not be reduced to sex. Who is reducing morality to sex? I don't see how you can misinterpret what I posted as doing so unless you have grossly misinterpreted those biblical verses.

I don't see how you can misinterpret what I posted as doing so unless you have grossly misinterpreted those biblical verses.Am not necessarily referring to you, but we see an ever increasing absorption with sex to the point that sexual issues appear to trump everything else, a position not sustainable in light of the primary message of the NT.

While I admire your environmental zeal, I don't think the word "sex" was used once in conference. In fact, I don't even remember sexual issues being addressed in conference. I'm sure porn was brought up in priesthood (as it should be), but that is by no means an over emphasis and comes no where near "trumping every thing else." I cannot remember a conference where sex was the dominant issue. Edited October 23, 2013 by pogi 2

Only in some small groups who are obsessed with self gratification and choose to make it an issue.
CV75 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I see so the Church abstains from discussing things beyond individual morality? What if that morality gets set aside by, "its nothing personal, just business" type attitude? Do we not have some accountability to the World in that regard? Seems like Christ had a somewhat larger mission than that don't you think?Pretty much: Both accountability for sin, and the Gift of the Holy Ghost belong to the individual, even when people combine and organize their efforts. So it is always personal. And since corporations (while treated in some ways under the law as individuals) don't make covenants with God, whatever their share/stakeholders accomplish through them is on the share/stakeholders. To me, this means if we are a share/stakeholder, we are accountable to God in how we use our means and influence to bless His children through our participation in the corporation. Likewise, if we are consumers of corporate goods and services, we are accountable for what we do with those goods and services and whether or not we support the corproation's aims and effects on society. And as a citizen of under the same laws governing corporations, I have every right to call out corporations for doing things I find morally reprehensible, and to support those that do good things. The Church encourages us to be active citizens in our communities, governments, etc. so I think it's doing the right thing by speaking to the members primarily about their moral responsibilies. In this way, when the Church takes a stand on a political or corproate issue, the members are already aligned with the moral basis for the decision. 1
