The 11th Annual Book of Mormon Archaeological Forum conference is coming up in a few weeks on Saturday, October 19th at the Utah Valley Convention Center. A few of our own will be presenting.

Mark Wright (who is now on the board at BMAF)- The Future of Book of Mormon Studies

Dan Peterson- Two Books from Angels: Comparing the Qur'an and The Book of Mormon

Royal Skousen- Hypotheses and Evidence in Book of Mormon Research

Richard Hauck- Deciphering Book of Mormon Chiasmus

John Welch and Kirk Magleby- Book of Mormon Studies 1952-Present

Clate W. Mask- Insights from the Cakchiquel Maya and Pedro Choc

You can see a flyer for conference on their website at www.bmaf.org and I will try to attach a copy to this post. Tickets will include lunch and are reasonably priced. I for one am looking forward to this conference and hearing these lectures.

Mods, is there any way to pin this? Thanks!

That would be the most interesting one for me but all the presentations sound really good.

Dan Peterson- Two Books from Angels: Comparing the Qur'an and The Book of Mormon

Considering what the Quran says about Jesus (denying the Sonship of Christ and

the resurrection), I wonder how Mr. Peterson will identify the other angel.

Jim

The angel of the Quran is identified as Jabril (Gabriel), and Jesus is regarded as a great prophet in the Quran.  Since Islam defines God (Allah) as one who neither begets nor is begotten, it would be difficult to speak of the divine sonship of Jesus, just as it is in Judaism.

4 For, for this intent have we written these things, that they may know that we knew of Christ, and we had a hope of his glory many hundred years before his coming; and not only we ourselves had a hope of his glory, but also all the holy cprophets which were before us.

5 Behold, they believed in Christ and worshipped the Father in his name, and also we worship the Father in his name.

Correct. Muhammed was no Prophet of God. The Quran rejects Christ as being the Son of God. (Verse 5.)
