Trusting God's Promises Through Other People?

let's say someone got a blessing and as per Elder Richard G. Scott's advice wrote it down, and then years later this person found out the person giving the blessing shouldn't have done so as they were up to no good. Is God bound by the promises made? In future blessings should you give someone a pseudo worthiness interview to find out if they are worthy to give the blessing?

If the still held the priesthood and office that permitted them to pronounce the blessing the answer is yes.  IMNSHO as long as one has the priesthood authority the God will honor that blessing.  I have seen it happen.  D & C 121:45 is a warning that unrighteous dominion can have the consequence of losing ones priesthood.  If one had to be totally righteous for blessings to be effective then there would be no blessings honored by God.

thank you! what do think about being worthy to give blessings and getting yourself prepared to get in tune with the spirit if God honours whatever came spilling out of your mouth worthy or not? This isn't a trick I am just curious is all!

For Q1, I think that God will bless the faith of the person receiving the blessing concerning the pronouncements made in that blessing.

 

For Q2, it is easier to pray to be guided to the right person give the blessing.

This same question can apply to ordinances and could be viewed the same way.

Suppose you find out that the person who ordained you an Elder was a major sinner, say adultery for instance.  Does that make your priesthood ordination invalid?  Does that make any blessings, ordinances, or ordinations you have subsequently performed invalid?

I would argue no, and that I think God still recognizes the chain of authority as being valid, since you were properly "blessed" by someone who had received their priesthood correctly.

All blessings are honored only to the extent of those receiving have faith to receive AND to the extent it is in harmony with the mind and will of God.  To those called on to give blessings it is incumbent on them to prepare to receive the will of God.  One can be rebellious and still hear God's will.  Think of one prophet Ballam of talking donkey fame.

My understanding is the blessing will be honoured but it brings condemnation upon the head of the one who performed the blessing unworthily. In regards to giving a blessing I've always tried to avoid thinking about what to say before giving a blessing, I've always just said the opening words then let my mind go blank and let the Spirit provide the words, it has never failed me.
