Interestingly, God refers to the people when speaking to Moses as' YOUR people whom You have brought out of Egypt have apostasised' However Moses pleaded with God on their behalf and reminded him that they were indeed His, ' Lord, why should your wrath blaze out against this people of YOURS whom YOU brought out of the land of Egypt' Moses calls to mind God's promise which He swore by Himself to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that they should be mad a great nation. Was God really ready to destroy His own chosen people? It would seem by the way he distanced Himself that He was prepared to, and His own justice would require satisfaction. Did He need to be reminded of His promise,? How could God forget and go back on his word? Or did He want someone to show their love for His people and intercede on their behalf so that he could demonstrate His grace and mercy and forgiveness.The power of prayer is stronger than we think, and it is a work of charity when we intercede for others. The Pope has called upon the catholic faithful worldwide to pray for Syria, will you join with us for their sake? 6

I'll also include it in my fast as Pope Francis has also asked. Your scriptural citation is interesting. One thing I think it shows is that God is indeed a God of passion and feelings.
