halconero Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) My favourite personal experience was this one time my companion and I had to go pick a missionary up in the northern part of our mission to take him to the airport the next day.Halfway up the I-17 a truck loaded down with hay erupts into flame and we ended up getting stuck for the next 5 hours. We finally made it to our rendezvous (a McDonald's) at around 2:00 AM and decide to get something to eat before driving back down to Phoenix. The lady at the counter gives us this disgusted look and says "Aren't you Elders supposed to be in by now? My husband is the assistant ward mission leader in blah-blah-blah and I know you're supposed to be in around 9:00! Shame on you for sneaking out!"My companion gives her this exhausted, deadpan look and says "Lady, if we were sneaking out why in the world would I still have this white shirt, tie and name tag on? That will be a big mac combo with a coke please...and please don't bring up coke and the word of wisdom or I will dust my feet, I swear." Edited July 10, 2013 by halconero 2
halconero Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Valentius, that was Elder Perkins fyi. I know you didn't interact with him too much, but I thought it would illustrate the story better if you knew.

CV75 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 What do you think of the phrase you sometimes hear around the Church that every member is a Mission President? I think meaning you are a little critical of the local missionaries, how the mission is run etc. Thoughts?I thought this was really funny when I was first baptized in college (mid-1970's)--so the saying has been around awhile! In the context I heard it, it was from a missionary that had been corrected by a ward member in relation to his mission rule keeping/breaking. 1
