Scott Lloyd Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Don probably won't answer...don't know why Tarski felt he needed to practice thread necromancy here...thought we had one of these much more recent.."Dang it dude, I am behind you 100%. It's a red-letter day!"Would have been if it didn't take you two years to get with it. Yeah. It wasn't until I was halfway down the first page and saw the thread from the now-banned wayfarer that I realized how old this thing is. Don't know if there's a way to check on this, but this may be the oldest newly resurrected thread on the board.
Calm Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Nope, another just got resurrected that is about a year older (I just checked the first page so there may be an older one): Is Earth Really The Most Wicked Of God'S Creations?
Brian 2.0 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 My solution is much simpler and allows us to keep everything intact:Simply realize that the Egyptians were famous for erasing embarrasing history, such as Abraham's victory over their gods. Hence it is not unreasonable to think that the Egyptians changed/warped the meaning of the images in the facsimilies and hence the difficulty in matching the current interpretations with extant scripture. How do we know they are "famous for it"? Because we have examples of pre-warped or non-warped ancient documents to compare them to I assume. So yours is a good theory, but it'd go down a lot easier, and be a lot more "reasonable" if there were any similar pre-warped facsimiles that had the abrahamic interpretation. But what we have are scores of similar facsimiles still with the Egyptian interpretation. 1
Calm Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 (edited) It has been awhile since I've studied Egyptian history, but iirc they were fond of chipping off older names that had lost favour among the rulers off of monuments and replacing them with the victors or current rulers. This is the one I remembered off of the top of my head: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatshepsut#Changing_recognition Edited March 10, 2015 by calmoriah
