Libs Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Please provide better statistics and studies or withdraw the "shoddy and degrading" accusation. Is there a significant link or not between homosexuality and attraction to boys age 11-17 or not? This is a legitimate risk factor for consideration when creating standards for leadership in an organization that cares for 11-17 year old boys.I resent the personal attacks obfuscating the content of the discussion.I just now saw this, Kevin. Since I have dropped out of the thread and really don't wish to pursue it, at this point, consider the statements withdrawn.
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 You missed the point. No one is saying that the BSA does not have a right to discriminate against gays in their organization, The point is, that it will help in pushing gay youth further away from the church. Some may feel this is not in the best interest of their child who is gay. I personally think that any policy that is unfounded in reason and pushes anyone further from the church is a bad idea. What is in discussion here is if that policy is unfounded in it's stated goal. How would the church know an 11-14 year old boy is gay? Most gay young men never make it known until out of scouts.
KevinG Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 How would the church know an 11-14 year old boy is gay? Most gay young men never make it known until out of scouts.Exactly- I question the appropriateness of any boy openly discussing their sexual preference straight or gay. I once had a group of Teachers discussing how they couldn't wait to date and I asked them "why, what can you do on a date that you cannot do now with the Young Women in groups?" They were a bit kurflummoxed and didn't really have a good answer. My point was that under the law of chastity they have time to wait and develop as Young Men without worrying about sex, the temptation to fornicate, et al.

I really don't mind evidence to the contrary, but assertions and personal ones at that are all I have been getting from others in this thread.
california boy Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 How would the church know an 11-14 year old boy is gay? Most gay young men never make it known until out of scouts. What are you talking about. Of course there are plenty of members of the church that are still in scouting when they come out. That may have been the case 20 years ago, but certainly not the case today. My cousin has a son who is gay and told his parents as well as the bishop. He attended Evergreen meetings at 16. Scouting in the church does not end at 14 years of age. The priests are still under the scouting program.
california boy Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Mitt Romney is against the discrimination policy of BSABack in 1994, during a political debate in Massachusetts, Romney said this: "I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation."A Romney spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, said in an e-mail that this remains Romney's position today.
selek1 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 California Boy-Your quote contradicts your headline.Romney supports and affirms the BSA's right to make their even as he disagrees with the specifics.
